To be honestly I struggle to rationalize how any of these tracks bring in enough money to justify how much they cost.

It’s not like they are making bank from big pro events, and frankly i doubt any of the great tracks of the world would get built today if you gave a developer the option. There is no way the economics go around.
The pothole infested race city in the final days was ~$15k/day (average of weekday vs weekend) for just the track rental (laughable CHARGES for them to do you the service of offering your clientele the ability to pay them for concession services) and that was many years ago, rain checks were at their discretion... and was like 1/season if you had a standing weekly rental with them

Tracks ain’t cheap, additional services at these new ones, the annual dues and equity membership sales, etc... probably just as profitable use of land as a golf course... with way less upkeep

Being more profitability than a golf course isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement.

Those NIMBY Farmers are hilarious. They strip the land of all natural foliage so they can homogenize the ecosystem with one crop for a century. Both now it's "zomg the Banks Swallows!"

    fucking NIMBIES are the worst.

    Yeah.
I'd be there building a secure storage and wrenching garage to rent out cheaper than the track for weekend warriors.

    ** Golf course in Alberta.

Plenty of very profitable golf courses out there where they can play 10-12 months/ year.

Haha a race track has a longer busy season?

I think the economics of it work like this:

Group A buys the land, permits, builds the track and deals with the HUGE expenses and operates it for a few years at a loss. Realize they can't sustain the venture and end up going bankrupt / have to sell it at a huge loss.

Group B buys a already done facility at a discount and then operates it at break even and does alright. Maybe they grow it a bit and push more events to up the revenue.

    At full revenue?

Anyway. I don’t think this is nearly the license to print money you think it is. My recommendation to everyone who think any particular business makes too much money is they should totally go try to do it themselves.

He owns a drift series... I’m not sure what else you’d expect, the nice thing about track rentals is, it would be guys like this that have to worry about actually breaking even on the day he booked

Once upon a time I use to help organize these days in Calgary with the previous owner of the series... I did actually have a ton of 6 figure cars come out, we ran two groups... drift and grip, it was great, first time those days ever turned a profit, gave it back to the community with a huge year end event. Fun had by all, shoutout to Redlyne_jr for helping make it all happen

You would first have to attend a Race Track to find out.
