I bet there's some sort of chemical out there that they could inject the guy with to make him temporarily paralyzed for say, 5-10 years or whatever the sentence is deemed to be. Then when his time is up, the antidote is injected and he's fine again, minus the muscle atrophy.

It's not up to you to decide if it is worthy of respect or not, but their way of life should be.

I am sure people said the same thing about slavery. That they were savages, simple, idiots.

We are not to judge their laws, their beliefs, their way of life. Over thousands of years, each society has evolved, and devolped systems that work for them, and adapt with time, and at different paces.

We view them as barbaric and uncouth, yet to them, we are the infedels trying to destroy religion and loose morals.

While those examples are extreme, they are still valid. One might say we are further ahead and more advanced. Well, there could be merit to that argument, but "western" systems are not a one size fits all.

They may be different, but it is the system that works for them. We can try and show them how to be different, but at the end of the day, they have to choose it, because if we choose to impose our beliefs on them, we are no better than them.

I have to agree with spikers here... their laws may be completely ridiculous to some degree as we all see it coming from a well developed nation. We may dislike how they dish out punishments and generally way of life as some may see it, but we have to 'respect' (lack of a better word) that is THEIR way of life. Do I agree with it? Hell no. But if it works for them we can't impose our way of life on them because we're 'better'.

If you were that kid that got stabbed and paralyzed I'm pretty sure this would seem fair, given where they are from.
