CHEVROLET= Cheap, Hardly Efficient, Virtually Runs On Luck Every Time.
I used Alan at integra.

Seemed to know his stuff, provided a nice binder and a big pdf report.
Didn't miss anything that I have discovered.
Showed up in time, charged exactly what was quoted, and had infrared pics for no extra cost.
Jordan the realtor had one he uses posted a while ago. Do a search.
I used Kevin Hawes from assured home inspection and was very happy. Really thorough guy, lots of neat equipment including a thermal camera.

I used Accuhome based on a bunch of recommendations on beyond. Most people recommended Dan Merrell, but he was busy. I used Paul Carrier and was very happy with the job he did.

I got Dan. He taught me so many things in the span of 3 hours. Now it's just a matter of retaining all that information. He also claims to be Mike Holmes' #1 rated in Alberta. Waiting for my report now.
I used Accuhome too and Dan missed a glaring issue. Could have killed a family member if I didn't catch it in time. 220V wire rubbing against the stove drawer doesn't tend to give second chances.
When questioning them on this, they said, it's not our fault it was missed and we aren't liable for anything as per the agreement you signed. So I wouldn't go with Accuhome inspections. Unless you just want that warm fuzzy feeling inside with no real substance.
From now on I plan to skip the $1000 cost and rent my own equipment for $100 or $200 and do my own inspection. The $900 I save I can put towards repairs. Anything major, of course I'd walk away or adjust my offer.
Hmm... good thing I intend on changing out the stove as one of the first things.Originally posted by mr2mike

any other companys that people would recommend?
Integra Inspection: $490
Accuhome quoted as per their rate sheet. So a 1700 sq ft home, $600.
A friend of ours used this father and son team call Canadian Property Inspections Ltd , any one heard of them ?
http://cpiltd.ca
they quoted $530 for an inspection. (1700 sq ft)

He was great, and even does a recall check on all the appliances (this house had 3 that were potential recall). I was about $500 for a 1200 sq ft townhome.
We used Integra, but IMO inspections in Calgary are a rip off. Other cities, it would be about half the price. No guarantees or liability either.
We used Alan and integra as well.
He was able to identify a leak that was starting from the unit above with his thermal camera before anything major really happened.
Hands down I would go with Roger @ Wall to Wall home inspections.
I've used him a total of 4 times now, we used him on every per-existing home the fiance and I were looking to purchase, his work is phenomenal.
Average cost was about 350-400 bucks from what I remember, let him know Ian sent you his way and I can guarantee he'll go the extra mile.

There's a lot of talk about home inspectors having zero liability in this thread. I did some reading and it appears that in 2011 Alberta forced home inspection companies to carry errors and omissions insurance.
I'm curious from a legal standpoint, does putting 'we are are not liable for any errors or omissions" really shield them from negligence claims/lawsuits?
