Interior Railings Recommendations?

I'm looking to replace my interior wood stair railings with a more modern look.

Any recommendations? Any beyonders do this type of work?

The company I work for does this, also I think the foreman has his own contracting gig set up on the side for this kind of stuff. PM me if you want me to put you in touch and put in a good word. Be warned he's Polish, does great work, really skilled.... english though... so so lol.

Called a few guys and sent a couple emails but only one response so far - $140/linear ft is what I've been quoted

Heh, i had 2 quotes for 4k in labour only (20' of rail) told it would take 4-5hrs 1 guy... those were the lower numbers... half a days work is 4grand? FFS i need to get a carpentry ticket.

Are these numbers for metal picket style spindles with wood rails?

How complex do you want the railings? There's a company I had previously been looking at when I did renos to my place. I ended up with designing something myself. (1/2 height wall with glass), and then an oak railling on the otherside.

Was going to go the ultra modern metal and glass, but looked too much like an office.

Ya, and if u do get a good quote, from say ssr, a spindle stairs and rail company, don't worry, it's a piece of fiction. Optional items ordered in total bill, aren't suddenly available, but the price is still as if they are there, even when clearly spelled out.

Been waiting 5 years to rant about this.

I am personally looking for the metal spindles and a simple wood rail on top with only 2 - 90 degree turns. Not a complex rail and not worth spending $3k on.

I'll buy the spindles and rail and find a carpenter to bolt it in. Or I'll refinish my existing rail.
