No DRLs is actually odd...I have noticed that. Thought it was the law? You would think cop cars would be bound by it. Wonder if the new interceptors have DRLs. Wonder if the special rigging they use for their lights prevents DRLs from being used. But you are right, I cannot recall crown vics running them...

DRLs are either a module (like a fuse) that can be removed or software programming. In the US, people can turn their DRLs on and off through a menu on a screen (if so equipped). Cop cars have always been exempt from DRL.

    But...safety! Why are they exempt?

I don't think the wig wags will allow DRLs to work.

I got "arrested" for obstruction of justice cause I was a little punk at 16 and decided not giving my name to a cop. At this point I'm pretty sure its just a bullying tactic to make you play ball.

Nope. If they have a reason to ask you for a name/ID and you don't, it's obstruction.

Because amazingly, there are times when police vehicles need to be dark with no lights on....

then give them a switch to turn off the drl's for those times. else its obviously to be less obvious (to the herd) for traffic patrol reasons.

Agreed. But all the time? Should be on by default unless they need to be dark. Just cruising around with traffic they should follow the same laws as everyone else, for safety when they are in the flow of traffic. Just like there needs to be a reason to run sirens and lights there should be a reason to not have DRLs on and it needs to be justified. Simply not having them at all is pretty lame and dangerous. The E39 M5 alex roy used to break the cannonball run record had a switch that made it dark. If not engaged the car had lights as per normal cars. If that aftermarket tech is easily available to a civilian then surely police could use it.

The TSA does allow for Police cars to be exempt.

That said, i remember once upon a time when i started, we had a DRL kill switch. So, im not sure whats changed.

Personally if im cruising around, i will put the lights on.

If you buy a used Police car, are the DRL's working?. Anyone???

There's only 2 requirements I can see, but there may be other regulations I'm unaware of. According to the trafic safety act:

    Daytime running lamps
12 The daytime running lamps on a motor vehicle may emit
    amber or white light.

    Daytime running lamps
43 If a motor vehicle is equipped with daytime running lamps
installed by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle, the daytime
running lamps must be maintained in good working order and to
    the manufacturer’s specifications.

An Obstruction of Justice Charge for using something for it's intended function that is legal in Alberta

I know quite a few guys running laser jammers (some with the Escort Laser Shifter ZR4 and some with the Blinder M-27) all swear by their jammers and none have ever had issues. I've been debating on getting one for a while now just can't decide on which one.

All the CVPI's I've seen have the DRL's enabled when they're sold at auction. It's really easy to toggle the dark car mode on/off through the lighting control module.

CMVSS says that all vehicles model year 1990 or newer have to have them except law enforcement vehicles. And this includes vehicles imported into Canada. Just ask some of the poor fuckers that had to add some lame ass junk to make it past the RIV.

The TSA deals with the requirements to maintain them in working order.

Have they made any difference? Retards still pull out and get t-boned and crash head on because apparently looking where the fuck you're going is too hard.

Show me case law that applies DIRECTLY to LIDAR jammers, that support your position.

    So true.
Had the blinders in the past and they worked extremely well.

ZR4 shifters came with my new car, let me down last year though. First ticket in a long time, clocked 15 over; laser trap in city limits. Read a lot of lackluster reviews online as well.

Have since upgraded to the Laser Interceptors OP referred to, late last year so havent had a chance to see how they hold up. Lots of good reviews online though.

Never had any questions or issues from cops all the times they did work, or the one time it failed me. I'm not ripping around like a madman though and dont have any other visible targets to pick on like tint, or loud exhaust etc.
