    Do you mean exploration????

I really hope you haven't sent out any resumes yet with the objective stating that you'd like to obtain a job with a resource exploitation company, hahahaha.

Resource Exploitation is the correct term, according to APEGA.

I was told most of the O&G production company outsource their IT division, so they donít actual hire them as permanent staff. For those that donít outsource the whole IT, their IT department will actually contract out the programming to another company; or their in-house system admin and analysts will do the programming themselves, instead of actually hiring a dedicated application software engineer.
But if thatís not the case, can you give me the name of some resource exploitation (oil & gas) company that hires senior application software engineer as direct permanent employee?
    Thanks.

Shell has a few staff programmer/developer positions, but not sure if there are many if any at all in Calgary... most are in Houston or Netherlands.

Try Husky? I know someone that worked there as a GIS Programmer.

not oil and gas exploitation. But Teck Coal's IS department is based out of Calgary. Great company to work for, not sure if they hire software developers though.

^ that doesn't help because he wants to work directly for the "producer company". Sounds like he is already at an IT company like Longview and wants to switch.

If you're dead set on oil, I'd suggest get on boarded as an independent consultant or a flow-through consultant first, demonstrate how much value you bring, and then see if they'll convert you into an FTE.

The only large company I know that is actively attempting to hire IT FTEs right now (I use the word attempting because they're struggling with competitive salaries) is Canadian Pacific. They're not an oil company so your total comp, as well as perks will be less.
