recommendations for washer/dryer and dishwasher

So my dryer and dishwasher stopped working, figured I might as well replace the washer also.

I want a decent set but don't want to spend a fortune. Any recommendations on a entry/mid level set and dishwasher?

Any stores I should check out, or anyone you recommend I should go see at a particular style?

I have a set of the LG steam washer and Dryer and they seem pretty awesome - i think they were $2300 for the set.

Bosch for a dishwasher. Can't really go wrong with something in the middle of their range.

We picked up a set of Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum High efficiently set

Dryer has a steam function and is > 7 cu ft.

Washer is hugh also ~5.3cu ft.

Great units. about $1400 for the set.

Washer is Top Load

Dryer is Front Load, but the Door extends to the upper edge, this makes it much easyer to move the laundry into it when the door is open.

I have this set and I LOVE them. Zero issues, cleans better than anything I've seen, very quiet, no vibrations, zero complaints whatsoever. 10 year warranty on the motor too.

Parents using a slightly different set, and my brother is using the same set, zero issues with any of them:

Given my position & experience in the appliance business, I prefer Samsung products for front loads and Maytag/Whirlpool products for top load.

I have a lot more picks in the dishwasher area. Blomberg, Bosch, Asko & Miele are my choices and while some will command a higher price than others, my service record with these brands is excellent.

That is not to say that there are not other alternatives, it really comes down to what sort of features you are looking for and what sort of money you want to spend.

The Cabrio line is a large capacity, high efficiency, top load configuration. You get the same water & energy savings of a front load washer, but with the convenient load/unload design of a top load machine.

I am a big fan of that line and also the Maytag Bravos line (also built by Whirlpool). Solid product.

Front load washers are the best design for a real good clean and the ability to stack the pair is great for conserving floor space, but if you are tall and do not have the ability to get the machines up on pedestals, the bending and reaching is a pain. You also need to leave the washer door ajar so it can dry out the inside and if the washer & dryer are in a small space like a closet, this can be a concern.

The availability of a high efficiency top load laundry set gives the consumer more choice. Pick what works best.

Kitchenaid dishwasher


Our dishwasher crapped out too, this is what we replaced it with. About 2 months in, very happy with it so far.

Quiet and clean. Only thing I notice is that it runs longer than the old dishwasher, but the old one didn't do a good job of cleaning either so I don't mind.

We actually found a lower model that was on sale at one store, went to Trail and they were going to price match, then were out of stock on the same model, so upgraded us to the better model for same price.

No one tried to persuade you into a Miele?

At the price you would find the KUDE70FXSS you could get a Miele Classic, Bosch 500/800 series or a nicely equipped Asko.

it's not to say the Kitchenaid is a bad dishwasher, but I feel there are better products available for that kind of money.

I hate LG, had nothing but problems with their stuff too. Have a friend that had their LG washer main board die and flood the entire main level. Never stopped filling when they were at work. It took out basement ceiling and the flooring.

Have a really nice LG fridge too that is a total piece of shit. Replaced over 2000 worth of boards and freezer components in the last 4 years (it is 7 years old). The builders one in my basement? Runs perfectly and have never had to spend a cent on it.

I went back to Frigidaire front loads and no problems what-so-ever.

Have a nice Bosch dishwasher and meh.... always problems with soap etc with it. Kitchen Aid was no better. Again for whatever reason the builders dishwasher that came with my house (and I put in the basement wet bar) washes everything perfectly - it just sounds like a space launch when it is running.
