Default Wood fence - fortress style without middle railing

Anyone had luck with building a Bastion style vs a Fortress style fence (no middle horizontal) and not have the fence boards bow in/out all over the place?

    Bastion

    Fortress

No experience there, but I had a similar project that was bowing-intolerant.

Solution was extended curing of wood in garage, while clamped. Cannot be touching the floor. Dehumidifer will help.

The wood will "release" it's tension, reducing bowing/cupping tendencies later.

I built ours Fortress style, but the middle horizontal is on our neighbors side, so from our yard it looks like Bastion.

Edit: Also I used 5/4 fence boards, much heartier and less chance of bowing, even if I didn't have the middle piece.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

5/4 will do a lot to reduce bowing. Also good if you have a kid who likes to kick soccer balls against the fence.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Lumbers already on the way, standard 1" boards.... I guess if it bow's I'll add the middle horizontal and/or replace the shitty boards.

What if you need to vacate your backyard at an accelerated pace? The middle board is a perfect foot placement to launch over the fence...

    just a thought

Or, suppose for a second that someone is running from the cops, and jumping over fences, running through backyards... then he gets to your yard and realizes he's trapped! Then he goes into your house and ransacks it, ties your family up in the basement with socks in their mouths, you try to open the door but there's too much blood on the knob.....

    just a thought
