Default Tax Question - Carrying Tuition Forward

OK, I'm trying to help my GF with her taxes. Naturally, since she goes to University she has about 5000-6000 in tuition, but she didn't make enough last year (Under 7000) to use it.

Can she carry forward her tuition? If so - how many years can she carry forward as a deduction?

usually you can carry forward anything, as long as it gets you money, the onyl thing you cant carry forward is jobs and stuff that you would owe them for

you can carry it forward. Just claim the entire amount. Whatever is left over is automatically carried forward.

So if she claims the $6000 in tuition, and only made the bare minimum (Let's say $7000, enough that she should get it all back) it'll carry the $6000 forward automatically so that next year if she made 13,000 she should get all her taxes back?

It's more worth it to carry it all over until she's got a "real" job making bigger $$$. Unless of course she needs the money from the refund.

She can carry it forward until she uses it all up.

I don't know if Education tax credits work like RRSPs. RRSPs are applied to the amount you make in the highest tax bracket. Education amounts may work either way. Call revenue Canada. They can answer all your questions correctly... they are afterall the ones who are going to evaluate your return. It is free too. They won't give you tax advice, but they will tell you the rules and how everything is applied.

They do sometimes tell you if it is better for you to wait, or better to use it now.
