    Default Camping trips 2013 style!

Alright, Camping season is here, looking for campground recommendations, reviews, and such.

Format should be as follows, and with a maximum of 3 pictures. Please post campgrounds that you visit, that you would be willing to visit again, with costs at the site, things to watch out for, etc...

So, let me start this off!

This is from our second trip this year, Lundbreck Falls, AB.
    Distance from Calgary: ~200kms
Costs: $24 / night powered, 17 / night no service

Water and trailer dump located in the town of Lundbreck at the fire station.

The campgound is nice, with a full time live in park staff. Firewood is $8/bundle or 2 for $15. The camp sites themselves are all pretty much on top of each other here, so privacy is at a premium, but nice scenery, and you can be right on the river.

You can see the walking path just the other side of our picnic table.

And awesome to have something like this so close by.

This was our first trip this year, all three of us had new trailers (2) or tents, so it was a great opportunity to find out what works, what doesn't work and what we forgot.

Location: Lower Lake Campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park / Kananskis Country
Distance from Calgary: ~150kms (one way)
Costs: $23 / night un-serviced and $21 / night for each additional tent / trailer on the site.

95 sites available with an on site manager / caretaker. Firewood is $8/bundle or 4 for $30. You can pick it up from the Manager, or they drive around in the evening selling it.

Lots of privacy between sites. Very close to the lake with tons of paved bike trails to other campgrounds / the upper lake. As of June 9th there was no drinking water available on site, but just a little ways down the road they had water and sewage dump. (Broken waterline into the camp ground, being repaired). They did not recommend drinking the pump water.

THIS IS BEAR COUNTRY. Keep you camp site clean, make sure your coolers and food are inside vehicles or trailers and garage is disposed of properly. There was a mom and her 2 cubs walk through the grounds while we where there.

Nice TR. Firewood has gone up, I see.
How many bundles did you go through? Did you check Elkwood for vacancy for their powered loop?
Lower campground is nice for lake proximity though.
The campground directly across the water from you is nice too, (Interlakes) as many sites are right on the water.

    view from the tent:

Definitely benefits to crown land camping.

BTW....you cannot "chop down" any tree or live vegetation for firewood. You can cut up and use deadfall and downed firewood without a permit.

    Can't do either within PP's.

We brought our own wood. 5' wide x 2' high (just a single row in the truck) and it lasted the full 2 days (plus a garbage bag of scrap wood)

As for Elkwood, I think they said it was mostly all reserved when they arrived at 4PM and that is why they moved down to Lower Lake (First come first serve). It was maybe 3/4 when we walked the loop Saturday morning.

Ah nice! Yeah, Loop B (power and water) in elkwood only has the first 16 sites that are FCFS. After June 15 that whole loop opens up to FCFS.

^^ Little Bow Campground? That looks like Kananaskis or Bow River area. Looks like "Little Elbow" campground.

    There's "Little Bow"......"Bow River campground"...."Little Elbow Campground"...and "Bow Valley".

Little Bow Campground is down around Vulcan.

This was our Second trip of the year.

Location: Johnston Canyon Campground Banff National Park
Distance from Calgary: ~175kms (one way)
    Costs: $27.40 / Night + $8.80 wood permit / night - No hookups

132 sites available with Showers, flush toilets and hot water

This campground is a First come First serve and fills up quite quickly with tourists. There are 3 loops with loop 3 having larger RV stalls. The rail line and Johnston creek are within walking distance. Plenty of hiking available with Johnston canyon ink pots, upper and lower water falls near by. 7KM away is a Castle Mountain convince store in case you forget the pancake syrup. The only down side is you need to have / purchase a parks pass to be here.

Currently only loop 3 is open as they have removed alot of trees and the debris have not been cleaned up in the other loops yet, we where told that loop 1 and 2 will be ready by July Long.

THIS IS BEAR COUNTRY. Keep you camp site clean, make sure your coolers and food are inside vehicles or trailers and garage is disposed of properly.

You can see they have plenty of wood available.

    Kikomun creek prov. park...

Not our style of camping... Muddy/reedy beach right here on the ponderosa loop; 1 ponderosa between us and our neighbour... 4' berm to the other side... 30$/night (without hookups) - 7$ per sh*tty little bundle of firewood.

Heading over to the west side of the lake in search of sand and privacy.

Camped at Little Bow last weekend. It was very nice. I just tent. There was a group of around seven 20-something chicks next to us. They were loud but mostly hot, so I guess it was okay.

newgate sandy shores resort (Far SW corner of Koocanusa) - roaming on AT&T because bell is just out of range... Fuck this is gonna cost me

pricey... 45$ but sandy beaches camping on the beach - no firewood... But they do request politely that you 'scavenge' the driftwood - as you can see that's not an problem

The wife and I were talking about heading out there tonight to snag a FCFS site for the weekend.
