I think it's been a bit dramatized. You can see that they put the wheelchair as close to the bench as possible. Could they put the kid in the middle? yes. Did they put the kid on the side on purpose to discriminate, I don't think so.

    Anyways, I laughed a little.

Guess the teacher could have stood on the other side to fill in the gap.

No. The teacher shouldn't have been in the picture at all, as that would make her too close to some and too far to others. That's discrimination

The article uses words to incite anger and show deliberate malice where none exists.

I would'nt say this is a big deal, but this is a direct consiquence of a civil servent's actions. We pay teachers to teach, protect and treat our kids fairly.

So in that light I would yes she failed.

Wtf? In what way did she fail, I guess I cant see most of the kids faces because they are blurred out, but the one that isnt blurred looks like the happiest kid you've ever seen, which would make me think shes a good teacher... What in that picture shows that she isnt protecting, or teaching those kids properly?

A quote I heard recently directly applies to this.

"Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by ignorance"

In this case I agree that it was written to get a reaction, which I guess is the whole intent of 'mainstream' 'journalism' these days.

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

The kid could have been moved to the centre or the entire class could have been shifted to the right (or their left). It was'nt a case of rocket surgery.

The photographer could have used better judgement, but to claim discrimination is ludicrous.

She's having her picture taken too. She's not the creative director of the photoshoot.

Chances are this "Photographer" was a bascially untrained 20 something year old that isn't equipped to handle anything other than "kids sitting on a bench". You can see that they just zoomed out pointed the camera to the right instead of moving the camera to the new center of the group.

The kid in question looks super happy and if his parents hadn't gone to the media with it he probably never would have picked up on this "discrimination".

That's another point I though of when I saw the picture. Kind of like, "I didn't know I was so different until my parents told me".

I would save the surgery for your contraction. Operating on rockets sounds dangerous. That's a double fail, son.

I see why the mom was upset, but I don't think it was malice. Just ignorance.

Actually now that I look at it, it looks like all the non-caucasian kids were pushed to the lower/outside rows. Fucking racists!!

Umm, the layout of the photo is up to the photographer...

I forgive you though, its not like you're a rocket surgeon.

    One of the comments:

Having worked for a school day photo company, I can attest to the fact that the time restraints put on each class or individual shot is ridiculously short, there is a ton of pressure to get the best shot in mere seconds after MAYBE a minute of configuring the seating positions. Most class photo's seating arrangements are, there for, rarely changed up. I cant speak to what happened here but speaking from my experience as a photographer, I also can say that it is a very touchy subject to ask a student to leave his/her chair to join the other kids on the bench. I can see a whole other controversy on the front page of the Province reading "Photographer embarrasses student by asking him to leave wheelchair for school photo".
