What to do with a flooded vehicle

Hey All,

So my 135i is completely submerged in a parkade along the river in Mission. I have already reported it to insurance, and have a claim open.

I was wondering what the best thing to do in this scenario.. I'm hoping insurance will pay out my car, and then I was thinking about buying it back, draining all of the lines, cleaning the interior and thinking about selling it. Is this the best way to go about something like this?

Also, I have text messages last week from a buyer I showed my car to (Had the car on Kijiji) and he made an offer for it and I said that I would think about it. Can I use this to help get the proper amount of $ from insurance, or am I stuck with KBB value?

Ya audipwr I know a coule guys that tried getting katrina cars fpr track cars (you cant insure them) and they were nothing but trouble.

Best bet is to walk away.

You're not stuck with anything. The insurance payout is a negotiation. Bring up ads from Kijiji, Beyond, AutoTrader, whatever and use them as evidence for what your car is worth. When I totaled my car their first offer was $9,000. I told them that was ridiculous and they came back with $11,000 or something. I showed them three Kijiji ads for similar or worse cars going for $15,000 and they gave me $15,000.

You will get little to no value from mods, depending on how recently they were installed and how much they cost. I had spent $2,500 on wheels and tires like a month earlier and I got $1,500 for them, but none of my other mods mattered.

Mibz, did you have to report that these mods were installed prior to the insurance claim?

I have wheels, brand new vinyl, downpipes, intake etc.. But I never told my insurance they were on the car.

If I'm not mistaken, water damaged cars are branded as non-repairable.

Edit: This means that if you managed to buy the car back, either through the insurance company (unlikely) or the auctions, you will not be able to register it or even to get a salvage inspection done.

To do the inspection, you need a request form from the registry. The registry will pull up the info on the car and will see the non-repairable title that the insurance put on it. This will lead them to denying your request for an inspection.

Alright, well quit beating a dead horse. I wouldn't try to cover up the fact that it had been flooded. To my knowledge flood damged vehicles were repairable and could be sold with a flood repaired title.. Much like this vette; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Forme...item20d407cb23

Engine, tranny, wheels, bumpers, doors, etc. would probably be salvageable - everything else is a goner.

This. Your registration will show the vehicle status as NR meaning non-repairable. You also cannot register flood damaged vehicles that have been imported from the United States regardless if they have been repaired or not.

Only one of two things will happen to your car: 1) It will be bought by a parts yard and sold for parts or 2) It will be bought by someone private and shipped overseas, fixed, and re-sold

I have bought water damaged cars before and although they were completely fine, they were only good for parts here as they can't be registered/insured (not allowed into US neither). Really nothing else you can do about it, sorry man. Get as much money as you can from the insurance and move on
