Default Hoist question - what do you guys think of this one?

Question for you baller garage builders...

What do you guys think of this hoist?

Here's an installed - in-ground version of the same - no crossbars, fits somewhere between a 2 and 4 post'er... Needless to say - the concrete work (and estimates) usually scares people off of the in-ground version...

This one is 100mm (4") tall, available in 110v form. 3200kg capacity.

I see lots of hoists in garage mostly used for minor maintenance; Yeah 4 post still allows stacking - but mostly I see them used because people don't 'trust' a 2 post.

Not that I'm a beyond baller garage builder, but I don't like how wide they are. I feel like the platforms would be in my way.

What's the price? (minus the concrete work)

platforms are about 300mm - so roughly as wide as a 4post...

US distributor is being insane pricing them at 3600$ - still trying to work the details, but should be closer to the typical chinese 2 / 4 post pricing...

But, delivery is more reasonable, installs easier, the 110v version I hear actually will lift a fullsize pickup (most of the 4 post on 110v have a tough time with a civic).

That lift looks great! You can do all the suspension/wheel work, and even drop a tranny or engine. That said, all of those lifts are quite different - which one are you looking? Can you post some links to details? I like the first one, as I've never seen a scissor-style lift go (what looks like) high enough to stand under the vehicle.

Top is the 'actual' one - but that's pretty heavily photoshopped... And you can't see the space between... Thats why I posted the second - same configuration; but different model.

Third is similar but has less lift - but more typical of the install (it's kinda cool in that you can get a kit that adds a almost pallet jack like setup - so you can move it)

    1800mm of lift (that's about 5'10")

    the 3rd is less (1000mm)

If your looking for a hoist to do the basic oil changes, tires wap, and occasional brake work, then it's ok.

Those style of hoists rely heavily on pinch weld lifting, or ladder frame which for 70% of the cars out there is not a problem, you may find yourself using blocks of wood to lift some of the newer cars as a great deal of them are coming with under body diffusers and slats to help with fuel economy.

The most versatile hoists are two post variants either from above ground supports or the super space saving in ground ones, those allow the greatest amount of versatility for any kind of job, especially the bigger engine out or trans out jobs. like it was mentioned though, the cost of installing new commercial grade concrete slab is what deters most people away.

With the two you have posted I can see it being a very big struggle to change out even just an exhaust.

Again this all depends on your proposed level of use, and type of Vehicle.

Yeah, no question these will never replace a 2 post... but a little less cumbersome for the home garage...

they've actually got a neat set of blocks available - look almost like big rubber wheel chocks with various configurations of notches for lifting blocks (little nicer than 4x4s)

I Agree! Love mine at work...
If you have little perception of how big your car is an where your RF tire is aka noob, then you will destroy your sidewall like RickDaTuner mentioned.

I have a 4 post and have put my extended cab Z71 on it, lifts no problem on 110.
I looked around a lot before I bought mine, I liked the scissor lifts a lot but they were not certified for parking on for storage.
The reason a lot of people stay away from the 2 post in the home garage is that the concrete usually is not strong enough. I looked at the max jack as well but didn't trust it with my floor.
The one big drawback for me with the 4 post is you don't realize how big it is until it's in your garage. It ends up being a car and a half wide, before you could put the car right next to the wall but on the hoist it's a couple feet away.

I'd pass on that scissor design. Looks like any engine removals would be a pain. I get annoyed with the engine lifter legs getting in the way let alone having these to compete with.

I have one of these in one side of my shop. Its actually pretty versatile, if you preplan what you are doiing. I have used it for Motor pulls, tranmission and clutch jobs etc. I just turn the car around for certain work so the ram and cross piece is out of the way. It works very well for brakes, and suspension work.

Here is a good place to buy from :

They were easy to deal with.
