Default Heritage drive/Glenmore road was filled with garbage

The excavation of a flood-damaged road in southeast Calgary last week yielded some unusual results, with city crews unearthing a large debris pit filled with old car batteries, scraps of wood, rebar and stained concrete. The pit was discovered about a metre below the surface of Heritage Drive north of the Graves Bridge, a stretch of road that had been washed out by the June flood, said Sean Somers, a spokesman for the city’s roads department. “Crews went in there to dig up the old road,” said Somers. “To bring things up to the modern engineering standards, they dug down about a metre deeper to build the base up.” The pit also smelled of gasoline and oil, Somers said. It’s not clear yet when the debris was dumped there, but Somers said that section of Heritage Drive was originally constructed in the late 1990s. The pit itself is about 50 metres by 15 metres, Somers said.

No wonder this section was one of the most bumpiest roads in Calgary. Glad it's finally getting fixed.

That stretch of road has been there since way before late 90's. I learned how to drift on that stretch of road at nights in '94 or '95.

Back in the day the concrete companies used to just dig a hole with the yard loader and dump all their old shit in it before backfilling.

When Inland used to be Consolidated and was over where Costco South is now there was a huge mess when they reclaimed the land. They cleaned it themselves but they were digging out old mixer truck drums they buried there decades ago.

That section should have been redone back when the Graves bridge was being rebuilt anyways. Transiting a ton of heavy equipment back and forth beat it up even more.
