Default new car ideas: awd, manual, quick, possibly a wagon for under 10k?

    Hey guys,
As the title states, im thinking about picking up a new car.

I would like to get something thats: awd, pretty fun to drive, manual and i dont mind a wagon. ideally i would like to get one under 10k.

a tdi passat wagon with awd and manual would be the perfect car but i dont think they exist, sooo

the 2 main stipulations are AWD and Manual

    Any suggestions?

My alpina wagon. Rwd, 240hp, #41/136 in the world. It's basically an e36 (90's 3 series) m3 wagon. It's tons of fun to drive. Will be at the euro show at Stanley park.

    Pretty much nailed it ^.

I just bought a Passat, I don't know if the 3.6L 4motion ones could come in the spec or not but it would be worth checking out.

Subaru Legacy 2.5GT, I enjoyed mine and in some ways regret selling it that's for sure. Lots of mods just like the STi and WRX that are available for them too if you get bored.

I was looking for a car with the same criteria as you last year; awd, manual, wagon. There aren't too many choices, I think they've all been listed here. Basically WRX vs A4. I went with the WRX and I friggin love it. Mine's an 05 and I paid 12k, should be able to get a bug-eye wagon for under 10k, possibly a blob-eye. The hard part is finding one that's unmolested. I had to wait a few months before I found one that was stock, low mileage, and well maintained.

You can get manual transmission awd BMW wagoons. I bet a E36 or E46 model would be closing in on your price range.

Or the aforementioned Audi, which IMO you can't go wrong with. Also, for a different style, Volvo has the V70R wagon (6 speed manual awd). Might be above your price range though, not many sold in Canada.

Someone please show me a prime example of a b5 or b6a4 for under 10k that's manual and a wagon. I've been searching for years

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

True. Subaru does make a few variants other than the WRX that fit the criteria (Legacy GT, Forester XT, Outback XT), however Audi/VW also makes a few variants other than the A4 that fit the criteria (Allroad, Passat etc). So basically Subaru vs VW/Audi.

Only problem with the Legacy/Forester/Outback is that its pretty rare to find a turbo model + manual. Also OP states that he wants something "pretty fun to drive", therefore the smallest/lightest/nimblest option of the two manufacturers respective lines might be the best choice (WRX and A4 respectively).

The E36 was never offered in an AWD configuration. Only E46 and E60 Tourings.

Almost impossible to find a manual, and although the initial price is definitely under $10g, you'll likely have another $5g in repairs

Personally, if you want something fun, I'd go for an older late 90's/early 2000's Impreza Outback, and swap engines/transmissions. That could easily be done for under $10g all in (but possibly not out the door)

What he said. The mid-00s Legacy GT are well equipped and still looks good to this day.

I still think you should buy that S4 avant for 18k
