    Default rodent problem

i have just installed some new sod in my backyard and noticed a few burrow holes over 3 nights already. I am pretty sure i have a gopher in my backyard.

How do i take care of it?

Can i poison it and get rid of it myself? How do i do that?

If i have to hire a professional, who do i call and how much am i looking at?

    Thanks in advance!

My parents used to have probelms with gophers years ago. What we did was get the Giant Destroyer smoke bombs from either Home Depot or Rona. You fill all the holes you can find except one, with dirt. Light the bomb, drop it down the open hole and fill with dirt. The gas will poison the gophers. It took a couple of times to get all the gophers but it worked well.

Nice looking backyard! I would get that remedied right away. I've heard about the smoke bombs too. Good luck.

Stick hose into hole and flood it. Hopefully it moves on to your neighbors yard.

If you're in the NW, they're probably Vole's.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Probably illegal to use poison in city limits-I know of several farm dogs that have died from eating poisoned gophers outside of city limits where poison is legal to use.

Birds pick them up while they are dying or dead and then drop them while flying or once they realize they are unedible and the pets eat them...

I have also heard you can flood the holes with a hose, much like the person said about the smoke bomb...

As a kid years ago we used to hunt gophers at my uncles farm. What we used to do was pour water down the hole. Then we would be waiting above the hole with a hockey stick that we had carved the end into a sharp point. It was actually pretty easy to get the little bastards and we killed quite a few this way.

Growing up, we did that too, except we had a slip knot over the hole. Caught quite few this way. Only one time as one of my friends was going to loosen the knot, he got bit and took a trip to the hospital for a rabies shot.

We have a lot of gophers terrorizing our yard and I have tried numerous things to get rid of them, but haven't had much success. Finally got tired and ordered this...

Picking it up at the PO tomorrow and then time to start hunting.

Check me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key...

Don't use poison. My dog died from someone doing that when I was little. Terrible thing to witness.

I would dare say that if you use this in Calgary or within 200 yards of someone else's home, then you could very well be inviting a visit from the police. See section 8 of Alberta's Guide to Hunting Regulations - General Section and the definition of what a firearm is under the Canadian Firearms Program.
    Will fuck off, again.

they're pretty easy to snare. slip knot over the hole, lean back and wait for the head to pop up.

Lol, we live on an acreage... Definitely wouldn't be outside shooting with neighbours 15ft away.

Plug the holes and run a pipe from your vehicle exhaust pipe.
