Default Where to get GL-4 gear oil w/ LSD additive?

Was putting a close ratio gearbox in my scirocco today and was pleasantly suprised to find out it has a LSD in it. The downside is that it's an older tranny and GL-5 gear oil will wear out the syncros. Anybody have any ideas where I could get GL-4 w/ that LSD additive stuff?

The way API oil ratings work is they have to be compatible with all other obsolete oils of that class. So that means GL-5 can be put in any application that call for GL 1,2,3,4.

The gear oil will not hurt your syncros. The oil takes the biggest beating on the gear teeth. When it comes to pressure and force the sycronizers don't have a whole lot on them.

Go to your local ford dealer and buy a bottle of their friction modifier. I've found the ford stuff is the best but you can buy modifier from any auto parts store.

I've had great luck with Redline products.

Not sure they have GL-4 designed for LSD. However they do have a separate Limited Slip Modifier you could add to their standard gear oil.

Mopac carries Redline stuff. I hate the place but....

My understanding is that GL-5 should never be used to replace GL-4, something about "reactive sulfers"?

Copied from Redline's website, in reference to their GL-4 MT-90 75w90 gear oil.

Safe for brass synchros, as it lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils that cause damage

Most of the gl-5 gear oil that you buy has reduced sulphur/phosphorous content in the oil so it will react less with yellow metal. This it a big topic of controversy, some say it will totally fuck up and destroy your syncros but really no one has really ever been able to prove it.
