2013 Municipal Election on October 21st

With less than 2 months until the municipal election, no other candidates have yet declared their candidacy to run against Nenshi who currently has a +90% approval rating. Could this be our first mayoral acclamation in 70 years?

Based on the volume of opposition to his leadership on these boards, I'm interested in whether the dissenters are just a small vocal minority or if there actually exists such a drastic deviation in psychographic ideology among our members.

If I ran unopposed, had a big warchest, lots of resources, I'd use those resources to try and remove all the people who don't support me on council, and place more people that do on council.

God help us if we end up with more Druh Farrell types.

I live in Ward 11. Only three candidates including the incumbent (Brian Pincott) running so far. I have no real issues with Pincott or anything to really praise him about. The other candidates webpages are too vague to really figure out what they're really about.

What's the rationale behind spoiling a ballot? Is it meant to protest Nenshi's leadership while stating there are no other viable contenders? Can anyone who has spoiled a ballot or is planning to explain?

I agree that anyone that runs against Nenshi is throwing their money away. Like him or hate him, after the way the media inflated his status to superhero during the flooding has pretty much guaranteed him 90+% of the vote if anyone else runs against him.

Some of the council seats would be a lot smarter to try to go after. Heck, my ward in 2010 a guy with "the butcher" in his name still managed to get 4%.

Has any Calgary mayor lost an election after being elected in?? I can't think of a single mayor that lost an election.
