    Default coffee machines

Okay so I am sick of Keurig and pod style coffee machines. My drip style machine seems to be tasting like shit lately and I want to upgrade.

What do you guys recommend for a great tasting cup? Wouldn't mind something with a milk frother for the odd use. I have a French press and do enjoy it but I want a good quality machine as well. I love coffee and want to have the best cup. I can't seem to match the deliciousness of my local coffee shop (Euphoria in Varsity) and have basically given up at home coffees.

If you really want the best cup, invest in a good grinder and either an aeropress or clever coffee dripper. The other factor is using fresh coffee beans. You should buy in small batches and fresh.

Do you use the same beans as that store? Water temperature and brew times can really influence taste. Quality grinder for grain uniformity is key too. You need to grind right before brewing. And good beans that were recently roasted typically are more pricey than stuff from the grocery stores. Been meaning to try the Aeropress, heard really good things.

Oddly, coming back from Iceland where I could get an incredibly good espresso or coffee in the smallest of places, I'm convinced our hard water plays an influence too.

No I don't use there beans I just use Costco beans and yea I know that's likely a big issue but not really willing to spend the money on fresh beans all the time. Cheaper than buying from the coffee shops though I guess haha.

It's not for everyone but you can always roast your own coffee beans at home. Just a thought. I used to do it Sunday mornings and make just enough coffee beans to last a week. Amazing flavour and a lot cheaper than buying costco beans in bulk.

Also, how do you store your costco beans?

    This.

Bought one for my coffee obsessed mother for mothers day and has a neat little frother. New system has espresso or drip pods so you can choose which you want. The coffee is delicious. About 1 dollar a cup though. System is also pretty quiet and quick. Much better than any Keurig i have used at friends or work.

Want to get away from the expensive pod setups. Heard good things about this one though.

I store my beans just in the resealable bags that the beans come in.

Alright fair enough. Their Milk frother is a good product though.

They had the nespresso umilk in orange last week with the aeroccino for like $90, almost bought one but I have a bunch of kcups to use up first. Only really have 2 on the weekend so it is taking a while.

For nice coffee I have a french press or that italian stove top thing. I also have The Impress Coffee Brewer which is a travel stainless french press so I plan to use that at the office to have an afternoon coffee.

I bought this a few years ago and have never looked back.

You can use the Pods, which aren't bad, but there is also a drawer that you can fill with your own grinds that is awesome, and much cheaper. It fills as big or small of a cup as you want to use, and also is great for instant hot water for tea, oatmeal etc.

If I have time I also like to prepare a good French Press coffee either with Kona or Blue mountain, but if we are talking about machines, Nespresso is the way to go.

I have a Keurig, Tassimo, the old Nespresso and the new Nepresso Vertuoline and I've literately had a coffee from the Vertuoline every single day since I got it. Is it the best coffee you can ever make? No. But for something quick and easy, it's BY FAR the best. I haven't touched my Tassimo and Keurig once (even at the office) since I got it. Worth every penny.

This company (free ground shipping over a certain amount, I think $40):

Or this forum for group buying. Some are open to Canadians. You have to buy 5 lbs at a minimum so you should know what you really want. But I think it's cheaper than the above company:

Roasted coffee beans in a pantry are good for maybe 10 days.

You will get a little more life out of your beans if you put them in the freezer. If you have a vacuum sealer, that will help too.

Just 10 days? These beans bought at department stores could be months old before they get into our homes, yea?

Does anyone use a machine that grinds the beans fresh for you, and with selectable brew strength and whatnot? Those seem like a good way to go. One with a built it frother would be nice.
