people segregate themselves, the Mosque won't accomplish that. People won't stop being Muslim, Jewish or Christian because you deny them building their church / community center etc. If anything they will just feel more marginalized, unwanted, feel resentment and will segregate themselves even more. Of course not everyone in Pump Hill is Jewish. Just like not everyone living near this new community would be Muslim. I doubt the community will have legal grounds to deny people residence based on their faith. The only reason there might not be non-Muslims there is because of non-Muslims not wanting to live there. And that's their own problem.

It's been done in Vaughan before and from my understanding it hasn't created any issues for the community there. I actually remember being in Toronto when this project started and even remember seeing this mosque - it was in the middle of no where back in 92.

Now it's in the middle of a massive community and surrounded by non Muslims. Sometimes we just make a mountain out of a mole.

Meh, I see no issue here. If this were a new Catholic church going up, would it even make the news? I doubt it.

Every new community has a church or two and I never hear about the proposal/vote before it is being built.

My old neighbor has a wicked house in pump hill, not Jewish. I also have coworkers who live there and again, not Jewish.

Hell I even was poking around in that area when I was looking for a house, because I like the Glenmore landing area.
I kid obviously & I love basically all the communities surrounding the reservoir.

wife & I are looking for a nice place either in Eagle Ridge or Lakeview by Earl Grey

    exactly

there are many places of worship... and even places that aren't relgious, but are "secretive" like Freemason lodges that never cause this kind of histeria.

it really isn't news, but the truth is, North America will always be cautious of the Islamic community, due to the foreign based terrorist attacks and threats that stem from a "claimed" relgious war by those who have influence in the middle east.

This shouldn't be news at all.

And wow, who would have guesses that Gord Lowe was racist?

Religion sucks. Can't you like both cats and dogs?

They always make you either pick one or the other or none at all.

I wonder what the vote would have been for a private developer proposing something on this land.

This sounds like an Evra Levant planted story.

That's the problem... Alderman voted yes to not be called a racist but it's still a planning and zoning nightmare.

The SW mosque by 17th and Sarcee has been there forever and it's in Calgary west, most expensive (on average) quadrant in the city. So it should not bring the value down unless the city decided to build low income housing around this new mosque.

Where would this actually end up being? When I look at a map I see 88th St and then RR 290. Would it be somewhere in between or farther east than RR290?

One mile east of 88th as it's location is proposed for the south side of 22X at about 104th street - that would be range road 290.
    Will fuck off, again.
