    Default How much Utilities

I've never paid utilities before so I'm not sure what I should be forking out...

Landlord has zero occupancy upstairs, I live in basement suite. So I am the only one present here consuming energy.

I am on ENMAX Floating Gas and Power and bill is averaging $145 - $150 since I've been here.

Current charges on my latest bill:
    Power: 36
    Nat Gas: 41
    Water: 24
    Wastewater: 30
    Waste and Recycle: 11
    Total: 146 ish

Is this too much for a single dude?

I'm between $270-$330, depending on the time of year.

Power kills me. Central A/C, electric water heater, full rack of servers, power hungry desktop, home office. 2250 sq. ft.

Including internet we usually pay $300/mo for a small-ish older house and large garage.

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

I average about $250 a year in s 2400 sqft house......In the summer the AC gets me and every second week my children kill my electricity bill by not having the simple ability to turn of a light in the house.....ever!

Another big factor is time spent at home... I'd say most people go to work for a good 9 hours of their day, tends to keep bills low. While ballers like yourself have stay home wives and super flexible working hours which means you are bumming around the house using utilities like crazy... I assume anyway
Ha! My Wife makes more then I do, way more!

I know my water bill is the highest in the summer, thats for sure. But I also have the nicest yard, greenest grass and healthiest trees on the street, haha.

Blows my mind why people spend thousands of dollars on trees and then don't water them.

I will have to look at my bill tonight and see how it breaks down.

For those of you who worry about utility bills maybe consider building yourself a NetZero house in future? I think NetZero house would cost anywhere between $60k to $100k more than the regular house, however theoretically you will never have to worry about utility bills other than water and sewer...

Yeah, we will get right on that. Then I'll have all of beyond over for some nice unicorn steak and fairy fries. Because spending an extra 100k to save 2gs a year makes so much more sense in lala land.

I've seen on those TV extreme homes, some netzero (close to it) houses collect rainwater, and do gardening drawn from the shit tank.
