    Default Piston advice.....?

I know the answer should be no, but I am looking to see if someone with more knowledge or experience may have a different opinion. Though not likely. Really hoping to avoid having to rebuild...
Would reusing and not switching out the piston in the picture be in any way ok?
The engine is a DSM 2.0L turbo, car is a laser. Head that came off was just fine on that cylinder and looks as though it was rebuilt or replaced, keeping the piston in use. Pulled it due to bent valves from timing belt being way out of adjustment.
Story behind the engine is that it was allegedly rebuilt at a small town shop and customer never showed to pay the bill, car sat for long time before being sold to a wrecker when shop owner retired. I bought the car for parts under the assumption of it being rebuilt. Put it in and fought with it for a while before finding the t-belt out a number if teeth. Fixed that and ran like crap. Idled ok but no power under throttle and shaky. I am no certified mechanic, just been fixing and rebuilding my own stuff since before I had my lisence(over ten years) so I am fairly inclined, but no expert.
Any opinions or comments are welcome.

It's fucked. Looks like a valve broke off and rattled around.

Usually a interference hit that just bends valves won't hurt pistons badly.

And before we go calling the mechanics hacks, the customer probably just told them to slap valves in it and throw it back together because he was broke ass... And then couldn't even pay that repair bill.

you should be able to find used 4g63 pistons in good shape for super cheap. might as well grab a set.

What rat-fink said, and also, you dont know what has happened to the ring lands, etc....you could have a stuck ring from this.....

Reuse the cylinder... it'll crankwalk anyway. (I kid).

Definitely the valve broke off and was slapping that piston head.
You're always going to have issues with the car if you don't fix that cylinder.
I could see if it was just rings and replace the rings and save the piston. But this is pretty bad.

Thanks for all the replies. I am worried about pre-ignition and such. Didn't consider the way the air flow would be affected, thanks for that aspect. Will definitely look for another set and redo the bearings while I am at it. Perhaps that piston is one reason I couldn't get it to run right. Fixed or replace damn near everything on the outside.
