Default Accuracy and Functionality of Radar Detectors

    Hello,

I have an older Passport 8500 X50 in my car.

    This One:

I was just wondering about the accuracy of the device in terms of its placement, and if anybody has experienced similar random signals.

The suction cups that connect the detector to the wind shield I cannot find anywhere, and as a result I have to keep the device in my cupholder. Does this skew the accuracy? I'm thinking it needs a clear unobstructed view for laser detection, but I've detected cops from almost 2 km away with it in the cupholder which is why I'm curious if the placement affects accuracy 100%.

Does anybody else experience the detector going crazy when driving by a Shoppers Drug Mart or 7/11, or putting the car in Park?

Just got my hands on a 9500ix and I wonder why I never got one sooner.

The suction cups you can find on eBay.

Yea you are supposed to mount it without anything intruding it's view.

The K-band goes off quite frequently but the unit auto stores it so after driving by the same road a few times it doesn't go off.

I think it's totally worth the money.

They are 100% useless against all types of Laser (Lidar), so unless there is lots of radar where you are, just sell it.

I see you're in Airdrie so there may be some value there, but it's still probably all Laser - maybe someone else from the area can confirm.

Forgot to update that from like 2 years ago when I joined. I'm in Edmonton till April. I'm driving the QE2 about 6 times a month to Calgary and back, so this thing is VERY useful for me.

Well the 9500ix will detect laser, providing you aren't the one who got hit first so trail behind someone.

I find it useful but to each their own, like dash cams, winter tires, backup sensors etc.

My Escort Redline was great on the highway, saved me a bunch of times. Never bothered using it in the city though so I can't comment.

I got replacement suction cups from ebay. I think I might have some spare ones (new of course) if you want them OP. You need to have the bracket though, that I don't have spares of.

I turned off x and k band. I noticed k band in Calgary is usually some BS auto door or something.

I love the 9500ix. Great for multi-nova and laser. Also love it because it tells me bout all the speed traps and speed cams.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Depends. If traffic is heavy its essentially useless.

I have a V1 and love it. You need to also know how to read it and what sets off K/KA/Laser. to make it effective. I only really have it on on the highways tho.

The highway is really the only time its needed. Mine has a city and highway mode, but using it in the city is just annoying as hell. It goes off every 5 mins.

Slightly off topic, but what does a decent laser jammer run?

With the front area of a full size truck, is it even effictive?

700+ for a decent one. 300 or so from eBay.
