- Hours from the mountains
- Plowed roads don't exist
- Local drivers view red lights as optional
- Refinery
- Roads fork every where

I think it was on the radio I heard about Edmonton's street naming. Center St/Ave is located somewhere deep SE, hence most of the city is NW. At one point they were going to change it so it was actually in the center of the city but instead opted not to change it because it would be too expensive. IIRC, that decision was made decades ago as well.

I think the zero lines fall along the east Anthony Henday and the south Anthony Henday. So the numbers going east are bound from going into the NE by Sherwood park. If you are south of the Henday, that's when you start seeing the SW numbers. Just use the Henday as your anchor and it should be pretty straight forward.
