Well, I drove my first weekend in Red Deer for Uber. I drove from 10:00 pm to 3:00am Friday and Saturday. Quite the interesting thing to do. Uber had provided a promotion for drivers to earn more this weekend. Not exactly sure why... maybe they just wanted to be in drivers good books. There are now no other promotions coming up tho.
Anyway, my final earnings number is around $350 (burned almost $40 in fuel total). That also includes a short, slow Thursday night. Friday was busy but Saturday was the best... I was flying all over the place. That's the good thing about Red Deer... numerous trips can be done in an hour and night time traffic is minimal. Everything works so smoothly.
The demographic I hauled around was a mix of everyone, younger bar stars, middle aged couples, a few seniors. The service is being received well with some describing it as "the best service to ever come to Red Deer" and "I'm never calling a cab again."
The rider and driver apps work well. People love the simplicity of cashless.
Most of all my passengers were great people. Courteous and 90% of the time, I did receive a tip... Sometimes I got double the fare in a tip.
One thing I noticed was some larger groups just assumed you'd be ok with packing your vehicle full passengers. I'd pull up and next thing I see is 5 or 6 people coming to get in my car that holds a max of 5. Kind of annoying.
There was a late 20-something couple plus their friend I picked up... the two women weren't getting along. About halfway thru the trip, they really started arguing... screaming, yelling. Kind of awkward but whatever. The guy tried to calm them down but it was past that point. I ended up getting them home before the fists started flying.
I had two rider no shows. I gave them 15 mins to show up and attempted calling them a few times but no answer. That pisses a guy off but I guess it's to be expected.
Overall it was a pretty good experience. Met some cool people.
