Exception not the rule for sure.

It isn't as lucrative as one might think. That fact is/was that 12km was unpaid and it was for a crap run.

I'm sure runs back to back peak time would produce more dollars but at what cost.

I'm waiting for someone to post more FT type of real world figures. He wasn't quitting his day job that's for sure.

She was in her pajamas which was a bonus I guess. Insert "Was there a tip?" joke here.

local info about what? the rates

    Base Fare: CAD $2.75
    Per Minute: CAD $0.25
    Per Km: CAD $1
    Cancellation Fee: CAD $5
    Service Fees: CAD $1.85

drivers get that (the fare) times the surge less the uber fee which is a %.

The more you drive, the more you make. You're not going to retire off being an uber driver.

    Wow.

    You're Beyond's own Google service.

I'm talking about a real world driver with some input to actual time put in.

You don't get paid to drive to the fare. You don't get paid to wait for the next rider, etc..

Just looking for somebody who can give some input as to what they put in and what they got out for a random shift they might have done.

    For example....

I'm sure there has to be a driver on here that started one day and tracked their odometer and did some math with the time they were online, the kms driven in total for their 'shift' and the km and time 'paid'.

Had a Beyonder send me some info..

    Thanks!!

    Went online at approx 11:05PM.

First call was about 30 mins later.

Drove 6.2km to get to first fare taking 7mins to get there. Drove 1st rider 1.9km and 3.36 mins trip time.

Drove to where Surge pricing was lit up. Surge dissipated by the time he got to Surge zone of 1.2x. He gets his 2nd request.

Drove 4.8km and 20min to the next fair.

2nd rider was 11.2km at 22mins travel time.

Drove 7.5km and 7 mins to get to third fare. This was a 1.5 Surge Price.

Drove 3rd fare 21.87km and took 23 mins.

He called it a night and drive back home and then logged off.

14 mins and 11.3 km home.

3 trips. 2 hours online. Approx 55km total km driven total. 35km was for the 3 fares. Total time of 3 fares was 48 mins. 1hr12min driving to fares, waiting, or driving home.

Payout with surge price was $43.37. Without Surge it's 30.92.

    Fuel cost was 8.23.

2 hours made $21.68/hr before fuel.

2 hours with fuel costs is $17.57/hr.

If he didn't get that Surge pricing on the last trip it would have been $15.46/hr before fuel or $11.35/hr after fuel

That's not including taxes, maintenance, etc..

More figures/date would help gauge actual earnings could be.

Hope this helps out. It sure helped me to start getting an idea of potential pro/cons with P/T Uber.

Tells me his fuel costs need to go down. He's running over 15L /100 km for that fuel cost

    Typical internet response.

Blames the driver for not making enough money.

It was 14L/100km driving something that would qualify for UberBlack.

So count your lucky stars when you get a nice ride instead of a rachet Prius it's at the expense of the driver.

If I get any more PM's with other trips/shifts I'll post them up.

Hopefully it will be from a Tesla so the operating costs can't be put on the driver. Oh wait...he has to still pay for his Tesla....

Its weird, its as if people are just now figuring out that driving a taxi for a living isn't some kind of dream job and/or a a license to print money...

I think the accepted cost per KM for vehicle expenses (fuel, insurance, maintenance, wear & tear, etc.) is $0.50. So buddy that drove 55 KM pissed away $27.50 in costs and his revenue was $43. So he made $16 is a couple hours. Sounds like a shift at McDonalds works out better.

I think that's what needs to be heard.

I forgot to add up the cost per km.

Even with something more fuel efficient you might be comparing it to a shift at SmashBurger instead.

Didnt blame him for not making enough money, just stated that his gas cost is a bit silly for that much driving. Having a vehicle that apparently qualifies for UberBlack, but not getting UberBlack fees for it, doesn't make sense to me. Great for the consumer, but doesn't add a extra penny to the drivers account.

I think the main point is that drivers can sign in/out as they please. I took an UBER to my Christmas Party last Friday and the ride requests were non stop on the driver's phone. In the peak hours, he could probably circle inner city and downtown and pick up fares continuously without too much travelling.

Now to do the math, it seems that for short trips, UBER and Taxis are about the same price, and long trips is where UBER gets way cheaper.

My 3.35km (15 mins) UBER ride downtown was $9.35 total. My taxi Ride home after was $9.10 + tip.

Do drivers see your destination before they pick you up, so they can screen them and accept only the ones they want? That way they could, say, stay within the core or whatever they wanted?

Cabs refuse fares all the time if they aren't worth their while, curious if the Uber drivers can do something similar.

Most people tip cabs around $5, plus not having to be in a filthy, smelly cab that drives as slow as humanly possible and where the debit/credit machines mysteriously fail when the driver wants to pocket cash is a pretty big perk. Assuming that he tipped he probably paid 50% more for the cab.

Personally I would take Uber if for no other reason than Calgary has by far the worst cab service I've experienced in any country, province, or state and the fewer customers they get, the more likely they are to improve. Even if Uber was more expensive I would still use it over a cab.

    I believe the answers are:
no uber drivers don't see the final destination before pickup
and that cab drivers can be reported for refusing rides due to length.

Has a cabbie ever gotten in trouble for this? It's super common, so it seems like there is no deterrent.

It happens so often I can't believe there is any actual punishment/deterrent at all. Same with the credit machine scam so they can pocket the cash. If reporting them did anything I don't think you would see it so often.
