Well two new articles have sprouted up.
One involving an injunction to arrest people driving for Uber:

And the other talking about how it could be legal:

Only the City could do something as stupid as this shit.

I just can't believe the lengths the mafia and council are willing to go here to stop uber. It's already here, let it happen already.
...
Well.. that's like saying they should legalize all types of narcotics. "It's already here, let it happen already"? That logic doesn't quite add up.Originally posted by Maxx Mazda

Just took an uber home, was a 2015 jeep with 80kms. I asked a lot of questions he had 0 answers, said he's been here awhile didn't know some simple road rules. Was 30 bucks instead of 45+. Will use again.

"It's already here, let it happen already" is what we do with texting/drunk driving... all we do is put controls around it, with very limited effectiveness

Took Uber. 1970s Chey Nova. Seat wasn't very comfortable and no seatbelt on my side. Driver didn't say much, drove erratic and very fast.

Hmmmm
I was leaving a rave in Edmonton on Saturday night and many ubers were hanging outside the venue to pick up their fares. My driver did not verify we were his fare, we just got in. I tried to explain to him that I didn't think we were in the right uber (the right one had called my cell and told me).
The driver didn't speak english, so he dropped us off and shows me the 30 dollar fare. I checked in the morning and nothing on my CC. So that's quite the bug in the system. Someone else definitely paid my fair.

Uber legalization is on the way. However...
That won't fly at all. Adding complexity to such a simple system won't really work well, especially since most Uber drivers are just doing so in their spare time. It'll be interesting to see if the provincial government approves Uber's in house insurance coverage.Uber drivers would also need to be licensed by the city, their vehicles would be inspected to ensure they're safe, and drivers would be required to carry insurance approved by the provincial government.

Injunction was granted. In effect until December 17, at which point it could become permanent.
