We had a service truck here with one. What do you need to know?

If you do upgrade, there's no good reason to get a 250. The 350 is the same truck (very little difference) but is rated higher and will be easier to sell.

I have the 350 diesel, it tows like a freight train but everything is more $$$ on a diesel, unless you're towing/hauling a lot it's kind of hard to justify.

Yeah, the 6.2 is hard on fuel, about 3-4 l/100 km difference I find between 6.2 and 5.4.

The 6.2 has been reliable so far. Remember, they have only been out since 2011 so long term is unknown. Keep in mind some of the ugly the 5.4's had is very similar in the 6.2's, such as cam phasers, vct solenoids, and the spark plug placement. However, I would imagine when Ford designed this engine they worked out the common problems the previous engines had.

If you decide to go diesel just stay well away from Ford...far away. They will cost big coin sooner or later. You're only safe if you buy a new one with full warranty. I don't really recommend anybody any diesel unless you really do a huge amount of towing.

No they don't. The older 12 valves might get mid to high 20s. Mileage gets worse as they get newer. The best I did in my 05 was 24, and that was trying. A quick look for fuel consumption while idling says ~0.5 US gallons per hour. You'd need to travel 58 miles with it idling to get 35mpg (Imperial gallons). I'm not an engineer but I doubt it burns less fuel at highway speed than it does sitting still.

Edit: My wording on this seems funny. What I mean is, driving 58mph while burning 0.5 US gallons per hour, like it does while it's idling, will get you 35 miles per Imperial gallon.

Edit 2: Not 58mph. How would 58 miles on 0.5 gallons equal 35 miles on 1 gallon? I'm so fucking stupid. Don't rely on me for anything.

Dodge is introducing a 1500 Diesel for the 2014 MY. I also believe gm is doing the same, with the same engine. Ford is holding off.

Reliability, the 6.7 is bulletproof. We literally drive the crap out of them in the hardest conidtions and they just keep working. Very good cold starts and very good power. My 6.0L has done me well in my personal truck but its not for everyone. Cant comment on a 6.4L

Our 6.2 work truck got about 8 - 10MPG highway. It was very bad. Same with the 5.4L.

I went from a half ton gas to a 1 ton diesel. I planned on a trailer and the whole nine. I dont have a trailer, and probably wont for many years. I drive my truck unloaded and on the highway. Things change.

But, Diesel is cheaper than gas. My gas truck got 19MPG on an economy tune and my Diesel gets 21MPG average on an economy tune, turning 35" tires in a truck that weighs 2500 pounds more. It also has 500+ HP on tap.

I would, however, like to maybe get into a half ton diesel. But for my personal preference, I would buy one with a manual. Since dodge is the only truck with a manual, my next truck will likely be a dodge.

Cos should look at a half ton diesel I think.

Buy another 1/2 ton now, buy a 3/4+ 5 years down the road when you need it

Don't worry about the coastal highways, down in the U.S. they know how to make them. I never once got stuck behind a slow moving rig.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Boost if for cars, unless we're talking diesel, then it's definitely a truck thing.

Cos you might as well come over to Ram country. Where displacement trumps boost every day.

Get the new Ram 1500 diesel.

If it were me, I would wait for the new F150.
