You must be in nice area ... lol

Try going to China town or T&T ... will see more Type R ..

Somehow Focus RS is more rare, but easy to spot (Can't miss that Blue) .. Golf R is still the most common hot hatch!

By the way, for the members with the Type R, how was it past winter? 18inch wheel/snow tire ?

I actually like the look for the Type R, but chicks hate it ...
I use 18 inch winters. With good winter tires its amazing!!!!
Might be hard for some because no seat warmers but I have no issues.
I drove through alot of winter storms with no problems.

It'll be the exact same as a normal Civic pretty much once you have a good set of winter tires on it. It's surprisingly docile in all the softest modes, and then just stay out of the turbo like you would any other car in the winter. The only thing you're missing I guess is some of the driving/safety aids.

I do hope they come out with one that has heated seats and all the safety tech though - perhaps if they bring out a more 'civilized' looking one. I'd happily sacrifice the 20lbs or whatever that is.

Greys only been available here for barely two months. One of those months was heavy winter.

Also you can’t order that colour, it’s pre determined for dealer allocations.

    That’s still correct, yeah?

Yep correct. There is a grey one in Moose Jaw right now for sale but it has 5k of dealer installed upgrades (the Red Carbon stuff)

Village had a grey one as of last week.

I believe that’s the only one available in the our area (Alberta)

If you’re looking for a specific colour pm me and I can point you in the right direction

Agreed. I can spot a Focus RS far away, because the front end and rear wing is very easy to see and differentiate.

Golf R is so common I see at least a few a day minimum.

Alberta seems to be a hotbed for the Golf R as they are everywhere. I can see why though as they made for a really good all around daily driver.

Couple of questions for CTR owners here and esp @heavyD : how does CTR compare to EvoX? and how hard is it to convert CTR to 5 seater?

I haven't driven one. I got to see the one I ordered in person but I didn't drive it as I took my deposit back. As for converting to a 5 seater that would probably involve swapping the back seats with regular Civic hatchback.

Best way is to see and test drive an Evolution X. Interior is something to be desired, it's smaller, especially the trunk.

Fun-wise, the AWD system is excellent and fun to toss around the corners.

I've driven Evo X and seen a CTR static. Evo X had great handling, decent power and poor shifter feel. CTR trunk is huge compared to any sedan because once you fold down seats you can fit a lot of stuff. Maybe this summer I can get around to CTR test drive.

Is red no longer available? I hear yellow exterior and a lighter version is in the works or is that just rumors?

I've owned both. The quality of the interior of the Evo x was garbage. But that car was crazy fun. I like the type r better.

Driven both cars extensively. The CTR makes for a much better daily driver and is more practical. That being said I found that the Evo had better steering and was maybe slighly more fun to drive (very close tho). I really didnt like the lag the Evo had off the line with the SST transmission (drove a MR). I havent actually seen anyone convert the CTR to a 5 seater, thats an interesting thing to do however... cant see it being that difficult.

Red is no longer available however I believe there is a dealer out East (Ontario) that still has a red one sitting in their showroom. Yellow may be in the works along with a lighter version (yellow car with a wrapped roof was spied on the ring recently) but it's just rumors at this point. Word on the street that if there was a lighter version, it will be announced at Frankfurt in September.

Well considering it's only a few thousand dollars more than a GTI I see why theres so many. Why get a FWD car when you can do an AWD car with more power right? Unless I'm completely out the loop here with how they're priced now

FWIW, my GTI was about $31k plus freight and taxes. The $31k includes $1400 for DSG and $1750 for DAP, so you can easily get a base GTI for under $30k. I don’t think I’ve seen a Golf R for less than $45k which makes the R 50% more expensive and definitely more than “a few thousand dollars”. For lease payments, a GTI is $400/month while an R is $600+, again more than 50% more.

I would love to buy a base base GTi for under $30k but seems impossible these days. R pricing has also climbed steadily, my parents originally paid around $40800 OTD for their 16 R and you can’t come anywhere near that now.
