My first car was a Sentra SER and I drove it for four winters without a problem on mountain roads in BC, I think I can drive just fine. Having experienced FWD, AWD and RWD in the dead cold snow, I'd take RWD any day.
RWD over AWD for the snow haha what?

Also the Type R will be just fine in the winter, it will be the exact same as the normal civic which is quite excellent in winter. I had zero problems in the worst of it this February on the all seasons. Will be getting winter tires though for next season to be safe.

Yup RWD is more fun than AWD for snow, I much preferred my M3 over the STi.

Up here in hickville, they won't plow our streets unless there is 7cm fallen in ONE day. So it could snow 5cm everyday for a week straight and the plows won't come out. Fuck this town.

It is a pretty interesting car, good to see Honda putting it out there for the fans. It isn't a car I'd buy personally, and probably to the annoyance of Team_Mclaren, it is indeed mostly because it is too expensive for a FWD.

Not being a hater or anything, just saying in that price range there are RWD and AWD options I'd be looking at. Namely the Focus RS, WRX STI, S3, and Golf R.

As far as winter driving goes, I sure wouldn't be using the Type-R as a DD. I didn't even winter drive my Fiesta in Calgary. Driving a FWD car in the snow is poor people behavior, lol.
I don't mind FWD, and by all accounts the thing is really good mechanically, and dynamically.

I just can't get over the Mid-90s Pontiac plastic body cladding. The wobbly wing, the fake front fents (!), the weird door cut line on the flared fender, etc. It's a classic example of "styling" but not "design".

How many people are buying a CTR to daily and/or winter drive them though?

I saw a black CTR with a dealer plate cruising downtown last night. Definitely looks a lot better in person, and the black helped mute some of the crazy design cues.

I would think quite a few - it's not *that* special of a car, it has Honda reliability, it'll do just fine in the winter, and it's very practical still. Especially the leased ones, no reason not to just use those for everything. The CTR doesn't strike me as a summer-only toy for many people but maybe I'm wrong.

Me. It's a Civic not a RWD suprecar. If I get one it will be a four seasons daily driver.

If I had a CTR it would be summer only. I winter drive my Golf R. CTR is more special than the Golf R IMO. Its a FWD lap record holder! Although I am curious how would my Golf do on track vs a stock CTR seeing as I have 245 width MP4S tires now.

So was the turbo Cobalt SS for a while for what it's worth though.

haha it doesnt bother me. A accord 6-6 is over 40k... is that worth it? meh.

To me, the driving dynamic of the CTR is pretty special, even though it's FWD. Like i said, i prefer it over the Golf R and STi.

I was waiting so badly for someone to mention Accord 6-6 so I could post this gem. Along with it being the last muscle car as per car and driver I think, it's basically a big block!!

An abundance of historical road test data on actual production 428 CJ cars suggest peak output in the neighborhood of 275 SAE Net ("as installed") HP, using published trap speed and "as tested" weights, and Hale's trap speed formula. Period road tests revealed quarter mile performance in the very high high thirteen to lower 14 second range, with trap speeds in the 101 to 103 MPH range: [42]

Chassis dynamometer information from well documented stock examples reinforces that estimate.[43] Similarly, this level of acceleration performance is on par with that of a production line stock, 2013+ V6/ speed manual transmission Accord (278 SAE Net HP), which shares a similar curb weight. It should be noted that a Holman and Moody specially prepared "stripper", which carried no sound deadener, undercoating, or any optional factory equipment, was used as the introductory press car in 1968.[44]

Yeah the ring time is worthless. These cars just came out so the hype train is at it's peak and it will go down as it does with all cars. There's nothing special about the Type R. Looking at some of the paint imperfections and other issues with the launch cars I'm not even sure if it's better than Ford quality. If I didn't have commitment issues with cars I really shouldn't have much interest in this car on merit alone seeing it's one of the most expensive FWD cars in the world.

Actually I'll argue, it is special.
