So the $1000 reservation fee is for a lottery 'ticket'? That's fucking stupid.

Never a reserved a car before, so if it is in fact a lottery and I don't get selected, do I get my money back?

Looks like I might be wrong and if you have a deposit in it is yours, sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone know is they are sticking to a FWD platform or migrating to AWD?

    I guess we'll see.
I still need to be notified of an MSRP and shipping date. And the dealer I selected for the car needs to contact me with other details.

Honda is so proud of what they have done with FWD in the type R (it really is incredible, you can't tell its FWD) I would be shocked if they went AWD.

That being said SH-AWD is one thing I really wish was an option in more of the Honda lineup.

Let's also hope it looks nothing like that test mule

^ haha, ya that mule does not look too appealing. I would be surprised too with their "low weight" FWD ethos, but with so much competition going AWD it isn't the biggest reach.

There is no need to pick a side.

    R = FWD ($45,000); RR= SH-AWD ($60,000 with more power/track focus)

Sadly they are too stubborn build it.

Agreed the new spy shots are ugly but the current one isn't a hot date either.

This would be 100% fine with me, ideally with just a small premium for AWD though rather than having to buy the track beast to get it.

What I really want is an Si with power in-between the regular Civic and the Type R, because right now it only has like 15 more HP than the regular Civic which is silly IMO. Throw in some AWD and a hatchback option (which will never happen for the Si in North America), and those would be a steal at $35K. Even if they just gave the Si a reasonable amount of HP, I would probably buy the Sedan. If they can undercut a similarly optioned GTI by $5,000 I think they would take a lot of sales from VW, but they won't if they keep the Si with such a huge power deficit from the R.

The other thing they added to the 2020 Type R is adaptive suspension that adjusts 20 times a second instead of 2 times a second, and apparently it makes quite a difference. It would be nice to see that trickle down to at least the Si, but I won't hold my breath on that one.

My lease is up in Feb 2021, and all these awesome cars are going to be coming out in Q2/Q3 2021 haha, I don't know what I am going to do. The good news is that there is $10-12K between my lease buyout and what my vehicle is currently selling for on used lots - I was not expecting it to hold it's value quite as well as it did.

    Mercedes-AMG A45 S is slower than FK8 Honda Civic Type-R, despite AWD – Why?

I'm sure I said it previously (at least once) in this thread, but if they do an AWD type-r, I'm all in.

As good as FWD is in this car, I want to have a DD that works in the winter and I despise driving fwd with snow on the ground.

The AMG A45 was a stock product while the CTR was in Honda's words a pre production development vehicle that Honda claims was “technically representative of production specification" with stripper interior, Cup 2 tires, and who knows what tune was on the prototype engine. Nobody has ever come remotely close to that time on the Nurburgring with an actual production CTR as Motorsport Magazine could only clock a 2'03"51 time with a stock CTR around the ring. If you want to compare stock vehicles the C&D Lightning Lap is the only real fair comparison as there's no manufacturer shenanigans.

Did any of you CTR owners get the spare tire kit? How hard was it to find?

2021 CTR Limited Edition ran a 2:24 around Suzuka. Faster then a Ferrari F40.

I'd bet you a beer that an F40 would demolish that time if you put it on the same tires.

edit: so would a few of those other "slower" cars (e.g. carrera GT and F50).

Or maybe not? Would be interesting if those times included what tires the cars were equipped with.
