    Default Wireless Router Suggestions?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new router.

I would like to have something that has good range and strong signal. As well, a USB port for NAS capability would be nice too.

I tried the Linksys EA6400 and its wireless range was complete shit.

    Please share your thoughts/suggestions.

    Thanks for your help!

There's some security issue on the Asus routers, no?

After a bunch of research I bought this one and it is incredible:

    http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX48616

Most comprehensive review here, compared to Asus RT-AC68U

    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wirel...-asus-rt-ac68u

It has completely solved the speed issues in my condo, and can max out my 100 Mbit connection via wireless. My LAN speeds are also slightly faster.

Has much faster USB 3.0 speeds for your NAS needs as well as crazy range.

I just recently ended up going with a Netgear N750 (WNDR4300) and it's been wonderful! Had a lot of issues with my old Asus one and their firmware in particular, then even more issues trying to get DD-WRT running on it. Just bit the bullet and bought a new router and haven't looked back since. I know some people have complained about the Netgear UI but personally, I quite like it.

    http://www.amazon.ca/Netgear-Wireles...words=wndr4300

Worth noting: This is a wireless N router, does not support the new wireless AC. Personally, I see no reason to have AC currently, nor to 'future proof' for it. In a handful of years when AC becomes the new 'N', there will be better hardware out there to support it any way.

    My two cents.

I'm extremely happy with mine, my parents have always used Netgear as well and have had zero issues. Their "low end" routers may be crap, but so are everyone else's.

I think it's like anything, everyone has a brand they have heard horror stories about. Just like the hard drive crowd - some people will only buy WD, some people will only buy Seagate. Me, every WD HDD I've had has failed, and I've never had a Seagate fail so I buy Seagate. Just as many people have had the exact opposite experience, so what can you do haha.

Also a 2 year IPR is like $15, and an extra year warranty with the CC, so who really cares if it fails you just get a new one. Any longer than that and it'll be time to upgrade anyway .

I was surprised too, personally, when I was looking and signs were pointing to Netgear. But I've really been hearing nothing but great things for their stuff (for my purposes anyway). Like Mitsu said, all low end routers are trash. I've had some fantastic experiences with Dlink in the past, but have a sour taste from using their low end stuff in recent years. Same can be said for Asus and Linksys. My old man just replaced his old Linksys wireless G router that he's had for probably 10 years, and replaced it with the same Netgear I bought. Both very happy customers!

Asus RT-68AC. It's a little pricey, but the performance is worth it.
I can steam three 720p videos from my NAS box wirelessly without a hiccup.
Wired performance read & write to the NAS is insane at 120mb/second.

The high end ones are supposed to be a lot better now. So far the one I have at home has been solid, and the one at my dad's store has been solid as well.

    Thanks gents

I ended up getting the D-Link dir-860L from Costco.

Pretty decent range, good speeds, I'm happy with it.

EA6400 is very good and the price is impressive. I only use the Model CVSD-K31 Wi-Fi Signal Booster is not more than $ 50 with the 2.4 GHz frequency capability and TX Output 500mW. so far no problems and enough to use his own

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

I've been running the RT-AC66U for a while now, it's basically the first router I've had that can do this:

I had a dlink once, it was years ago, and the thing was constantly unstable, devices always had NAT issues, and one day it just stopped working entirely.

I also had a linksys which I had DD-WRT on and it was pretty good, but this AC66U is by far the best router I've ever bought (and the most expensive).

edit: looks like I need to update my fw..
