Has anyone restained oak kitchen cabinets?
Just wondering if anyone's stripped the honey color off their oak cabinets and restained them with a darker stain?
Most concerned with the decorative door work and using the chemical stripper on it. Does it work as easy as the DIY shows say?
I was thinking sand down what I can (flat faces) and chemical strip the decorative work areas.
The house has custom built in place, solid oak cabinets. It'd be a shame to remove to install particle board stuff that they use today.

It will be a pain in the ass but you can do it. just get as much of the existing color off as you can and use a dark stain because you wont get it all off. stripper works pretty easily its just messy.

My wife just finished repainting our solid oak cabinets. It took her a solid week and 3 coats because we used white. It was a huge pain in the ass for her.
Overall the results are good. If your looking to just degloss the kit we used comes with deglosser as the first step. It was rustoleum cabinet transformation from home depot.

I have done thst and retained with black stain. Turned out well but takes a long time. Not a fsn of the stripper sanding is better but if you have no choice it should work well enough.

I did my kitchen, sand and then shaded them all darker, turned out great.
My boss finished another set last week, sand, stain, shade, clear. Worked out perfect and the customer was very happy.
I might be able to find the pictures of mine if your interested.
Edit they were also not oak, but the process is the same.

Does anyone have any experience with sanding and stripping plywood, as just the centres of my cabinets are plywood.

Those pictures look great. I'd definitely go darker and I would sand where I could on the flat parts of the cabinets. Just use the stripper for the intricate areas of the doors.
