    Default I got a job

Well, I gave in, searched, and got a job. I'm a busbuy at my local Texas Roadhouse. My pay's $2.83/hour, but I get part of the tips. The manager said it should work out to about $150/week (USD) with about 20-25 hours of work, so we'll see how it works out.

Anyway, my car. Needs tie rods, CV axle, washer fluid needs fixed, and some rust needs patched. Can you approximate a cost in USD for these repairs? I'm guessing the CV axle would be over $400, so I don't think it's worth doing that for this car at all. Hopefully tie rods wouldn't be more than $250, though, and hopefully the problem with my washer fluid isn't big, either. I'm not sure what could be causing it to not come out. I know it's not because of the wiper switch, because I got it replaced not too long ago.

No, I don't think it will be. Here in Pennsylvania, minimum wage is $5.15/hour USD. For tipped jobs, minimum wage is $2.15/hour. The manager DID say that I should be able to achieve $150/week USD, so what's that in CND?

tipping in the states is alot more generous than in Canada... I had cousins down there, and went there one summer, and they waitresses flip you off if you dont tip generously.

during the summer, at my cousins hair shop, american travelers tip very generously too.

I think at the current exchange rate, that works out to about $900bucks cdn a month? Thats not bad for a bus boy. its better than being a squeegie kid, or being useless like those guys with signs "Lost shoes, out of work, need help" etc etc.. on the side of the road.. hehehe

That really what it comes out to? Pretty good!

So can we address the car things here? Or should I repost them in another board?

    lol, it was she!

a CV joint job can cost alot of money but can cost tons more when it finally goes. get that done espicially if it starts getting really loud. 400+ usd seems high, maybe alittle less.

Tierods will probly cost you about what you quoted.

A CV axle isn't $400. Here in Canada it would cost about $70US (estimated) plus installation (about 1.5 hr's work ~70US).

    Default ,

Dude I understand you are excited and stuff but please, how the hell are you going to live off $150.00 a week?

If I were you I would clean up my act and get a better job. Summers coming so go for maybe a Framing Job or Landscaping. Hell I work in a freaking bread factory and I get $12.50 / hour, and I don't have to deal with bitchy customers.

You can do a lot better than that.

So less than $200 for a CV axle and what I said for tie rods? Not too bad I guess.

Umm, all of you saying that $2.83 USD/hour is horrible are not accounting for TIPS!! Like I said, with tips, it should come to at least $150 USD/week before taxes.

hockeybronx, are you saying $150/week CND or USD? Remember, I'm in the states. Also remember that every area is different, so you can't really compare. For example, in New York, or on the west coast, $8/hour USD and up is common. For my area, $5.50-$6/hour is common. $6/hour times 25 hours is $150. So it's about equivalent to $6/hour USD, which, like I said, is common for my age for this area.

And I don't have to LIVE off of it, I'm only 16. For gas, and car insurance, and car repairs, and computer stuff, $150/week should be decent, I'm hoping.
