We got back last week, stayed at the same hotel as DonJuan. Very pleased with our choice. Food at the buffet was pretty good for the most part, but the a la carte restaurants were all excellent. We found the pools and the beaches top notch. I think they have renovated in the past couple years.

Didn't do Havana unfortunately, but the catamaran excursion and the Jeep tours were tons of fun.

Definitely would recommend Melia Las Americas and look forward to going back.

Looking at doing a trip like this and have never gone further than PEI. What are the recommended places for booking these?

I've found this site is the best organized and easiest to use. I like the chart format they use.

Does anyone have any tips about planning for arrival in Cuba? Visa arrangements, what currency to bring, medical insurance requirements, etc? I'm going next week and any information is appreciated.

Just got back from Cayo Largo this past Friday, had an awesome vacation, beaches were ridiculously beautiful.

As for going to Cuba, Just need your passport and fill out a few forms on the flight there, however when you fly out you will be required to pay $25 CUC as a departure tax, total cash grab but what can ya do. Cuba requires proof of medical insurance as of 2011...however I was never asked to present any proof, if you have some travel insurance available through work benefits then you're good anyway, otherwise you can buy some for $30 - 40 for a weeks trip if you're worried.

I brought Canadian dollars, I would recommend changing them into CUC's at the airport as you will generally get dinged more changing currency at your hotel, but it's fine to do so at the hotel obviously. Up to you as to how much to bring, depends on if you plan on going on an excursions or buying lots of souvenirs, etc. Depending on what you're buying and where you may be able to use your credit card but if it's an American based card, it probably won't work. If it's Canadian based card then you should have no problems, otherwise bring spare cash and keep it in your rooms safe.

Yeah Bucaneero sucks other than the cool can haha. Cristal isn't bad but I was mainly drinking lots of rum while I was down.
