Attending Sundays' event and looking forward to it again. Going to be little chilly...a few degrees warmer would be nice; we'll see what happens on Sunday. May make for brittle cones and bumpers if it doesn't warm up beyond the -17 predicted.

I'm going Sunday as well. Hope my heavy ass car doesn't fall through the ice. Last ice report I saw was 30 inches or something. I'm ok with it being cold as then Ice will stay Ice and not turn to water.

I was doing laps with the truck in my sig last weekend @4800lbs with studded winters. Your car should be fine.

Just got back from the audi driving experience, we couldn't do it on Nakoda lake because of the ice cracking from the temperature swing. May be you guys will have better luck on ghost lake.

According to a fisherman's forum the ice was 18" thick last Saturday; should be safe for most trucks. I can only imagine that the ice has gotten thicker in the last week with this weather...

Obviously will dress for the weather but is there a LOT of standing around outside, or marshalling/cone stuff?

Standing around time outside is usually at the drivers meeting (Cochrane); drivers meeting prior to heading on the ice at the lake and briefly before and after the exercise/event you are participating in - The first two are usually the longest meetings (10-20 minutes). I'm sure the weather will hasten the pace of the meetings

Given how cold it will be, people usually stay in cars or jump into others' cars to stay warm.

Per the drivers notes; the ice is usually very slippery to stand/walk on; you need to pay attention when you get out of the car and walk around or you may experience a hard landing. Some of the drivers had the ice grips last year on their shoes/boots and they seem to work well (don't have personal experience with these).

Make sure you get some ice grips that are easy to take off if you don't like to drive with them. I must admit it does feel a bit weird driving with them on.

Part of the extra entry fee is going to the rental of a meeting room for the morning meeting.

And the meetings during the day have been shortened so the time spent outside is reduced.

However, like any time in winter, be sure to bring warm clothes good shoes/boots, long johns, toque etc. .... just in case your car quits on you etc. and you do end up spending time outdoors.

It is a good idea any time in the winter to have warm clothing with you.

You can always remove layers but if you don't have anything extra with you, you can't put it on....

    See some of you Sunday!

Had another great experience at the Winter Driving School - sincere thanks to all the instructors who volunteered! Well worth the time.
