^^Agree with you on the multi quote function EM2FTL!
Honestly, you could get into a Vortec 5.3 L (basically an iron
block LS) for around $1000.00 or so. Tack on $1500-$2000
for a T56, mounts specific for an RX8 and I can't see it being
more than 5 grand all in..if you can do the bulk of the work
yourself. That's how many KM's worth of rotary rebuilds?
Although, I could be oversimplifying it. I've never done it
personally.
*Edit upon reading further it looks like doing a 5.3 swap
is not as straightforward as a regular LS1/6 on an rx8.
But it's nothing too crazy, you'd want to upgrade the intake
manifold anyways.

**Edit - figured it out. Must click each box then hit 'post reply' button.
Don't you lose your warranty the moment you reflash or chip (or add a bloody intake) on a VW or Audi vehicle? Kind of sucks if that's what it takes just to fully disable TC lol.
Hallowed - don't try and make this swap seem practical, damn you! I'm supposed to be saving for a condo or house
And daaamn... $3,500 for an LS1 swap kit (+ engine/trans.)

Heh, come to a wed beyond meet and I'll take you for a rip. Bolt on's make stupid power on the LS platform
Come to the dark side..
I'm in Edmonton, otherwise i'd take you up on that - been following your build since I came over from 780. I did learn to drive on a '95 Z28 6MT though. LT1 so a bit older tech, but the torque that thing put out at low RPMs was awesome. Cruising on the highway at 120 and barely breaking a sweat was pretty cool too. Handling left a liiiiiiittle bit to be desired however!Originally posted by Hallowed_point

Insurance is about the same for everything I'm looking at, only a $200/yr difference for full coverage in either direction.Originally posted by guessboi
I would say GTI or BRZ
Probably would skip the 370 roadster if you are driving this vehicle year round.
At least you know insurance is a not factor of the decision.
Right on! Yes, I test drove a 97 Z28 with the LT1 before I bought my 98. It sounded so much better at idle and you're totally right about the low end torque. But the lack of top end was a big downer for me. The LS1 is also quite torquey; it just doesn't give you one big smack upside the head with it. That and the optispark and the fact that the LT1 Z28 was higher priced than the LS1 Z28 that I ended up in!Originally posted by EM2FTL

The thing I really love about the LS is how rev happy it is. For a pushrod engine it's amazing how smooth it pulls. It's deceptive because it's not running out of breath at 5500 rpm like the LT..it's pulling hard past 6 grand. But that's risky on stock valve springs + it runs out of steam with the stock cam.
I regularly get 650 kms to a tank on my drives out to the Oakanagan. In the city, it's closer to 300, but that's with a lot of hooning around.
The handling has only really bothered me on uneven surfaces as the solid rear axle isn't as grippy. With 295's out back and on bilstein struts mine sticks like glue around the corners..chased a C5 vette down coming back from BC in the twisties and he was on the brakes a whole lot more than me

yeah brz out of all of those.Originally posted by max_boost
BRZ. I like new.
it's the car I'm considering as my first new car within a year to two here.
So the guy at the Subaru dealership was a total douche, and all they had left was black and blue in standard transmissions for this price, so the BRZ is OUT. Don't want either of those colors, and honestly don't see myself paying full retail on one.
Drove the Abarth, had a great time in that thing. Quirky for sure, but it's full of character and really fun to drive. Like a little FWD go cart as someone put it earlier. One of the best exhaust notes anywhere, too.
Fiat dealer said they're being blown out because Canada's getting rid of Fiat completely. Sounds BS to me, and I can't find anything to confirm it. Any truth to that?
I like the Fiats exhaust note too. It has alot of character to it. Thats a shame for the BRZ. Blue is a great color for it IMO.
Are you sure you wouldn't rather get a used Civic Si over the Fiat?
I've had like 6 Hondas already including a K20 Si, and as much as I love them I've already been down that road. The K24 car is a nice drive, too, and pretty mod friendly but I think I'm liking some of the more interesting stuff out there.Originally posted by Redlined_8000

Blue is just too "Subaru" for me. Not a Subaru fan at all, save for the BRZ.
I saw the blue brz in calgary subaru and it just doesn't look right.
It becomes a purpley blue color, wasn't to found of that

I used to have an s2000, amazing car at the limit, dreadful as a DD. BRZ is relatively the same recipe. You need torque in your DD.
I've narrowed it down to the GTI and the ISF now. I think the Abarth would be a little too different from what I'm used to and expect in a car, the 370Z just isn't getting me excited even though I'd love a roadster, and the BRZ, well, that's out for reasons I explained earlier.

Good point on the handling.. the car I grew up with was on shitty tires and had stock suspension, I can see tires alone making a huge difference in grip. If you bring it up to Castrol for a road course day let me know!
If you're still willing to give the BRZ a chance, try Scott Subaru in Red Deer. They have really good salesmen/service. Was happy with the price I paid and the car was delivered as promised. If you're looking for 2013 models, you will be limited to selection though.Originally posted by mslbebiz

Thanks for the heads-up. If I change my mind I'll definitely try them.Originally posted by Skyline_Addict
