Why the fuck do they need a new fucking arena? they FUCKING SUCK! one of the worst teams in the league, and on top of that they have one of the biggest fan bases cheering for them, even though their pure garbage.

Why is the government wasting my money on stupid shit like this? OMG when I hear about things like this I get right pissed off. For them to even spend money on renderings pisses me off..

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with their current arena, and its more then what the flames deserve. I pay so much taxes, it makes me sick. I get really upset when I see propersitions like this that waste my hard earned money.

So a big question for you - why are you assuming that there will be any significant tax monies going into any new arena or stadium?

Nenshi been quite clear that he does not want to see an Edmonton type of arrangement down here and a lot of information is out there that suggests that the Calgary Flames group wishes to have their own arena on their own land so as to get away from the Stampede (Flames could make revenue off of parking?).

You just answered your own question. They have one of the biggest fan bases, who are willing to pay damn near anything to watch they're team suck. So why not build a new stadium, and charge even more when people are willing to pay?

Add onto that making it more acoustic would draw even more music artist names.

I sure don't mind paying my taxes if my revenue is being generated from a government funded project.

How good they are has nothing to do with it. Further talent will come in waves, it might take half a decade but it will take that long to build an arena anyway.

Why does the government spend money on this stuff? Perhaps because it spurs business?

I also can't believe you're saying there is nothing wrong with the dome. Its one of the oldest hockey arena's left and its a shit hole compared to other arena's. Many music artists also pass on calgary because the dome isn't accommodating.

I'm all for a new dome. I vote to spend InRich's tax money.

West village where Greyhound's terminal is right now and where Jack Carter is. Have also heard that it might be south of the rail road tracks and north of the Stampede grounds.

As far as what an arena (and the Flames organization) brings into the community, there's a lot going behind the scenes that most people are not even vaguely aware of. The Flames organization supports many non-profit organizations through a variety of ways - our non-profit wrestling organization is just one of many non-profits that realizes incomes from activities that we perform on behalf of the Flames organization, incomes that are not controlled by the AGLC (Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission - IE: casinos). Senior High School football in Calgary - wouldn't be playing a good many of it's games at the Shouldice fields if it weren't for the Flames organization (Stampeders). I know of at least one senior high school band non-profit organization that relies heavily upon activities they do for the Flames organization to support the activities that their band does/participates in.

Do some digging and you'll discover how much Winnipeg not having a NHL team hurt non-profit organizations and minor sports in that city before the NHL came back to town there.

The only reason I can think of for withholding info is to ensure that land can be purchased at FMV. Remember the west LRT fiasco in acquiring land after everything was announced and construction started, how much that increased the budget. But that's strictly my opinion.
