Default Tuners on a gas motor?

I've always heard about guys chipping / tuning their diesels for some pretty big power gains but does anyone have any experience with gas motors? I've got a 2010 Ram 5.7 Hemi and would like just a wee bit more power when towing. I don't want to spend $20,000 trading up my truck for a diesel because I'm not made of money and it would be a waste for the majority of the year (commuting back & forth to the office). For the most part I think CAI systems are a flop when it comes to real world gains that will actually make a difference when towing. Thoughts?

What would that be, $2000 - $3000 for 20 HP? NFL.

Cos, Codetrap and I each have tuners in our Ecoboosts. I have only installed the fuel saver tune on mine, and it calmed it down a bit, takes a tiny bit more effort to break the end loose, but I did notice a bit less gas consumption.

I have not tried any of the other tunes in my truck yet, but maybe Cos and Codetrap have, and can comment about it. From the reviews on people tuning the ecoboost, everyone says the power gains are REALLY noticeable.

I grabbed a Diablo Sport InTune from Jay at Tunerworks.

Love it so far; only changed my shift points, fixed the tire size and put the fule saver on. In the summer I'll put a tank of 94 in it, turn off torque management and put the performance tune on for a test run. Just too risky for that right now, IMO.

You should see gains in the hemi with a 93 tune.

It's easier to extract power if the vehicle is designed to run regular or mid grade fuel from the factory. Tuners can play with the ignition timing to achieve power.

The new vette is only recommended premium these day and thus tuners are getting great power from tunes running 93-94 octane.

My friend had An '08(?) power wagon with a tune. He used it to tow a '16 ft trailer. Made a difference.

For the Dodge you will love the transmission tuning. Night and day difference. Not much more you can squeeze out of the engine unless you throw performance parts at it first before loading a custom tune.

Picked up a Trinity for the Jeep, there's a fellow named Johan who makes custom tunes specific to your vehicle, you just email him the factory tune and that is saved into your tuner and what mods you have done to your vehicle and he sends you a custom one that blows the canned tunes out of the water, I'm certain he'd whip up something for your 5.7. He doesn't have a set price, he takes "donations" that usually range between $200-700, also if you add something to the vehicle you do not have to pay again to have him modify the tune.

If it wasn't for the exhaust note changing I would never know the transmission was shifting when going WOT it still pulls through the shifts without falling on its face in between. Really if all you want is a good custom tune on your truck without the datalogging, gauge display, etc. features even the Diablosport Predator would suit your needs.

Custom tunes are the only way to go. Hemi Rams dont exactly have a lack of power. The biggest difference Is definately the transmission tuning. I think you will notice and benefit the most from that.

If you decide to pick up a used flashpaq keep in mind that they're vin locked and the company charges 100-150 (don't remember) to unlock them.

I don't know if this is for all their units but it happened when I bought one for my 06 hemi.

I bought my flashpaq used. as long as the stock tune gets put back into the truck from the tuner (that matches the VIN), the tuner becomes unlocked again, and can be installed on another truck.
