Sounds like you got some real thin 3M, who did the install?

I got a couple good ones too driving out to the mountains. One cut the film, one missed the film and chipped the paint. They sure put a lot of sand/rock down, the snow was good though. Chalk it up as wear and tear. Other than replacing the film, I don't think there is much that I can do to make it look perfect again, I'll always know where it is.

Just leave it. It's protected the paint like it was supposed to. Replace it once it gets really bad.

Same thing happened to my audi, in my case the rock was trapped under the 3m, went back to icon and dameon cut a circle around it and batched it.

The term '3M' is too generalized... most people don't ask what brand of '3M' they are getting. Some are cheap but at the expense of thickness.

The reason I say that is over the past 5 years or so, my family has had at least 4-5 vehicles with 3M, and it has never peeled, torn or anything like what you guys are getting.

I'd be questioning the thickness and brand too. The whole point is that the film shouldn't break, or cut.

I've seen tests with shotgun blasts that don't break films.

Had this happen to some Xpel on my GF prius it was a pretty loud hit, surprised it didn't dent the hood. Warranty covered the peeling

    It isn't that simple.

I had some Xpel ultimate crack open when I hit a cone at the Winter driving course. It was -25. I am surprised my bumper didn't shatter.

If it was cold where Cos was, the material might have been brittle.

There are a few types of paint protection film.
Value, 2 ply and extra clarity.

As mentioned by other users, 3M is just a brand like Xpel and DuraShield etc....

Most places including myself offer a 5 yr+ warranty from peeling, discoloring, bubbling and cracking.

I would suggest to see if you can remember the installer who did it for you and go from there.

    Yes. You are correct.

However, you failed to realize the majority of consumer refers to any paint protection as '3M'. When there are many brands of paint protection. Eg, Xpel, Clear Shield and Venture just to name a few...

Haha man I did the drive once from Calgary -> Vancouver -> Seattle -> Calgary in December and swore to myself I'd never do it again and this just reinforces it. It's not the roads, nor my car, it's the other drivers.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

i think you fail to realize that the OP and unknown are friends IRL... here to for... perhaps he was clarifying that the brand on the truck is indeed 3m
