Anyone just hear / feel that loud bang / explosion North Calgary?

House shook here in Coventry/ Harvest area - Reports all over Twitter/ Facebook right now...

    Update: http://globalnews.ca/news/1187727/hu...eighbourhoods/

CALGARY- A huge boom startled northwest residents on Tuesday evening, sparking an investigation by emergency crews. The loud noise happened around 5 p.m. and could be felt in communities like Hidden Valley, Silver Springs, Ranchlands, Edgemont and Hawkwood. Calls flooded into 911, with people reporting a shockwave that shook their homes. Fire crews and police went out to investigate, but so far have not determined where the noise came from.

Thorncliffe, I heard it, the house didn't shake though. Thought it came from the north.

Apparently at the Lafarge plant some sort of explosion can happen. I remember reading about it in the summer. There was a super loud noise heard all over and they said it was routine.

I heard a loud noise, not a bang, sounded like louder than usual plane taking off at the airport? House definitely did not shake. I am in Coventry.

Flare stacks. The can blow out from time to time. Operations keeps a small amount combustible vapourto them in the event that the plant needs to vent to flair. Sometimes this small(ish) flame blows out and the ignitor fails to relight it. Vapour collects, ignitor finally does its job, and BOOM.

Totally normal and not a cause for concern.

Source: I dont work at Lafarge but i have worked in a plant for a long time and have witnessed it first hand.

I don't think Lafarge has a flare, can't imagine what byproduct of making concrete you burn off.

I'm going with routine blasting noise that got carried further due to the colder weather.

Wife and I heard it as well. Bizarre sound, not really a bang or thud, more of an airplane flying low type sound? Strange!

If you folks heard a long rumble, its possible that its caused by EM harmonics from the atmosphere.

The wife and I heard noise like this clip a few weeks past in the SE (not QUITE as loud though).
