There comes a point when you should bite the bullet and take your truck to an expert. Replacing your motor without having an thorough inspection done is a foolish idea.

Keep in mind that if the problems are from the accesories or electronics, replacing the motor will not help at all.

Give us some specifics on your truck.

    motor displacement
    Transmission
    Carb vs. Throttle body

Check out www. forums.s-series.org for some specific information on your truck.

if your engine runs, you dont need a new one, have the timing checked

Are you getting a check engine light, or any computer codes?

Not true, the engine can run even though there may be a large "knocking" sound coming from it (P&V contact). Honestly if all those areas have been checked, then take it to a mechanic they will be able to tell instantly what's wrong, I suspect there is a problem with either the computer (running incorrect timing) or maybe its the fuel pump trying to die.

i know, but im just saying, as a rule of thumb, because if it is knocking, it wont knock for long...

the check engine light has come on ever sence we bought it but goes out when you hit a bump or pothole, there has been no knocking coming from the engine although we have had many fuses blow if we put a fuse in and use the left turn signel it blows and and if we use the horn it blows a fuse and disables the back gate. sometimes there is a ticking sound . thank you tenderfeet

If youy elec. system is all screwy it could be the problem. You said it was electrical injection??

If so you might want to rule that out first, but there is no east way, short of testing the comp.

If it is the 2.8, does it have coil packs or a distributor??

Could be screwed packs, or a cracked cap/rotor in your dist.
