Default 2014 Beyond Group Camp - Planning and logistics

    EDIT:
Since this thread is a bit of a mess, and was mostly for planning, I have started a new Official camping trip thread here: http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...hreadid=382546

    Original text below:
    - -- - - - - -
I've been waiting around for someone to do the legwork on this, and it appears that it isn't happening, so I'll land a hand.

Let's get a group camp trip going.

I'll throw out two dates, and both of them work for me.
    August 15-16-17 or Aug 22-23-24.
I have looked on reservealbertaparks and both have a few options availible. Seems like a lot of these places charge $150/night, so $300 for the weekend, plus firewood. If we get eight or ten folks in, that's pretty reasonable.

Obviously, our selection is getting limited, as the reservations have been open for a while.

Please respond with questions or if you are in, please reply in this format:
    I AM IN!
    Preferred date:
Camp unit desciption (eg truck and trailer):
    How many adults/children
Preferred group camp site (please check reservealbertaparks to see what is availible)

I'm going to set a soft deadline of April 1 for responses. I think if we leave it longer than that we'll be SOL.

    Baygirl and I are IN!

2012 F-150 super crew and 25 foot trailer.

Preferred weekend: None, we will do either
it will either be Just baygirl and I, or baygirl and I and our 2 daughters.

Just tell us where, and we will be there!

(I tried to get this going earlier, but had zero bites)

Yeah, we'll see if we actually have enough interest for a group camp site, or maybe it makes more sense to just reserve a few spots side-by-side at a normal campground. Need at least six units to make it work. Even that's pretty skinny.

Currently standing at four people in, two as maybe. This isn't sufficient to justify the group campsite costs. A backup is to have us just get sites close together at one of the many reserve-able campgrounds.

I would head out as well

Preferred date:Earlier in August would be my choice
Camp unit description (eg truck and trailer): Truck & 30' Trailer
    How many adults/children 2 Adults, 1 Child under 1, 1 Dog
Preferred group camp site: Would prefer something within a few hours drive. Power would be a bonus but not a deal breaker.

I imagine I can probably convince another couple to come as well but can't confirm until a date is decided, they are on the forum as well but havent noticed the thread.

Just as a heads-up, none of the group camping areas that I'm aware of provide shore power. anyone who needs juice will be using generators.

Updated Count, five in - two as maybe. This is very borderline. If you guys want this to happen, please try to drum up some more interest.

As for alternate dates. I've picked dates that I know I can commit to. If someone wants to run a different date, they need to do two things: 1) verify campsite availibility and 2) do the booking and organising yourself.

Is it the same for just tenting? Might be interested, but it would have to be the 22-24th

Okay, with assistance from spikers, we have our date and location. I'll start of by saying that we are really pretty late in the year to be planning this. Group camping reservations opened in February, and I'm sure all the places close to Calgary got snapped up right away. So I don't want to hear any whining about this. or at least if you are going to whine, post your complaint in the form of a funny picture.

The group camping is reserved at Oldman Dam PRA - Three River Group site for Friday August 22-Sunday August 24th. This is a leisurely 2.5 hour drive from Calgary on good roads that should be AMG friendly. There is plenty of room for all us trailer-trash, tenters, and additional parking. It's near the Oldman River, just downstream of the dam. Not sure if this is a swimmable location, as I haven't been there in person.

Details of a BBQ, Cruise, and possible Going-to-the-sun road trip will be coming. For now, mark those dates in your calendars.

We are also requesting a Volunteer or 2 to co-ordinate with us regarding the cruise. It is a pretty easy gig. Figure out a launch point, and route, and then figure out times, and get it all sent out.

    Any takers?
