I was chatting to a couple of my native workers and they mentioned that they were given a huge chunk of land at Moose Mountain from the Gov't. The land was given to them supposedly as a result from the ring road. Anyone have details on this? My google skills appear to be weak.

    Its here:

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...mony-1.2442240

In the deal, the nation agreed to transfer 428 hectares of land to Alberta for the new transportation and utilities corridor.

In compensation, the province will give the Tsuu T’ina 2,160 hectares of new reserve land near Bragg Creek worth an estimated $44 million.

In addition to land, the province will give the band $275 million and pay roughly $66 million to replace housing and other buildings that will have to be torn down to make way for the ring road.

They should ask and print the occupations and qualifications of the people they get to spout off for these pieces.

I guess the downside would then be that they have to show how they interview people with no knowledge of what they are talking about, then print it.

It's pretty obvious it wouldn't matter if every single one of them held a PhD in the science they're talking about.

I would love to see the contractor come back with a lawsuit against this group for the costs incurred during the 2 month delay (they stated at the beginning an estimate of $100k a day). This group had their chance years ago, its just a piss off that they waited until after construction had begun to cause a stink. But I guess "concerned citizens" have more qualifications than all those involved in the multi-million dollar environmental study

However, as a resident of Discovery, I will say the amount and variety of wildlife hanging around the neighborhood and in Griffith Woods has changed a lot since construction has begun. I can only assume they have been disturbed from their natural range on the east side of the reserve and driven further west to get away from the noise/ commotion. So the side effects these guys are bringing up are evident, but really not permanent as the wildlife will disperse and settle once construction has finished.

It is absolutely absurd how bad of a deal we did to get the ring road. I would have rather spent 3X the cost and let the road go around the Indians than do any deal that gives them a large sum of money AND 5X the land. Indian chief must've been reading The Art of the Deal while our idiot rep was on a Trudeau-style white guilt binge.

Im a resident of Springbankhill but I could swear from reading those signs with the map of Stoney that the road was going to be on the springbankhill side of highway 8. Im actually pretty interested how close the construction is coming to the houses in Discovery Ridge.

Also it seems that they are bulldozing this area in blue below where that house was whereas I would of thought that they would keep the road close to highway 8 in the top part of the picture.

My commute is going to be totally fucked when they start the bulk of work putting that butterfly in there, especially if they build the butterly in at sarcee/glenmore at the same time. Hopefully no one discovers the route I now take using 26th ave sw.

The Transportation Minister who singed the deal was none other than Beyond's fiscally responsible choice for mayor, Ric McIver, donchaknow.

This should be a fairly painless overpass, Glenmore/ Sarcee/ Highway 8 is going to be the enormous clusterfuck of construction, and far from a simple butterfly. But don't forget there is also another overpass going in 2km east of 69th at the same time to create an access point to West Hills/ Grey Eagle Casino area.

I feel like that interchange at glenmore is fairly recent ?

I was reading the cities plan for glenmore trail widening, they are widening the lanes from 2 to 3 on each side and the construction should be done in one year from now. The other thing they are doing is completely removing the existing interchange at 37th st and putting a new one, I cant see how they can not put that interchange in after widening as it seems that 3 lanes each side wouldnt go through the existing interchange?

I also was looking at the bow trail widening that is just about to commence, I noticed that they aren't removing that house that is very close to Bow Tr going west just after 69th st. However the one big thing they are doing there is reducing the speed limit from 70 to 60. As some one who routinely goes 80 along their that is plain annoying.

It is, but it was always meant to be a cheap, short-term fix in anticipation of the Ring Road (for which the routing plan wasn't finalized when the city went through with the project, so it's not like they could 'future proof' it and work it in with the future upgrade anyway).
