    Default Chromecast Now Available!

Chromecast is now availabile on google play. $39 + shipping = $45.95. Pretty fun to play around with especially now that more and more apps are including casting like netflix, google music etc.

The showbox app with allcast works great to cast TV/movies to Chromecast from android device.

I am interested in this but at the same time I'm not sure. The issue is that I currently have a HTPC hooked up to my TV and don't see a need for this.

But at the same time for $45 .. would be a fun little toy.

I know what you are saying but for what its worth I have several media devices hooked up(htpc,ATV, xbone) and still like having the CC. It is just nice to be browsing your phone/tablet, find a video you like and be able to cast to your tv(it even turns on your TV and switches input if not on). Also its nice to be able to cast tv/movies from your phone because I find it easier to search it on a phone then using any remote, keyboard etc...

Also for anybody who doesn't have a media device its definitely the cheapest option.

I ordered one about an hour ago. Not bad for 46 bucks. But then I came here and noticed it was on amazon as well.....the cheap chink in me is beating myself up now

I've had one since September. It's great for Netflix and you tube.

I think I would rather spend the extra $20 and get one of these.

That looks like it does the exact same thing but at a higher price?

Since google opened up the API for the chromecast releasing their SDK the flood gates are open . There will be crap loads more uses, apps, etc for it than a Roku. Not worth it imo.

I use an app called Avia to stream media to the Chromecast...it's fantastic but Google really needs to support more formats.

Between that and Netlfix it's more than paid for itself.

What is it supposed to do exactly? Is there any point in having one if you have a Smart TV? I think I can do everything it does directly on my TV.

Yes it will. There are many ways of doing it. Plex app, skifta bubble upnp etc... It does it quite well too.

Can you send things from your phone to your smart TV? Maybe you can just wondering.

I almost bought one when I was in FL last year from BB @ $30 during the tail end of their Black Friday sales, then I got a Minix down there w/ XBMC w/ the icefilms stuff etc instead, idk if i'd need this either now but like you said for the price it's nice to have maybe for the upstairs TV.

    Whats with you apple fanboys!

I will probably buy another so each tv gets one. It is nice for netflix and whatnot and hopefully soon the synology issue is sorted out. None of my tvs are smart though and from trying them smart tvs are generally really slow...
