Not those morons again. If only cars had brakes as the numbers they always show are an impact at that speed. Maybe the accidents are caused by shitty pedestrians and shitty drivers. Paying attention is what stops accidents. 50 is a very reasonable limit for residential but as you know if we just idled around residential areas it would be even safer. Don't forget 50 is also a limit. Personally on narrow roads, roads with many pedestrians, children playing etc. I will drive under 50 and or cover my brake pedal. This is something this group never talks about.

    Also bullshit like this:
Did you know that speed enforcement typically allows for 10km over the speed limit before a ticket is given? That means that the RESIDENTIAL streets in Alberta are in fact legal up to 60km and hour unless marked otherwise… the same speed as Macleod Trail.
The police can give out a ticket for any speed over they want.

This is just a much more involved, dumber 30forsunnyside.

0 is also safer, but let's not give Druh any more ideas.

Who remembers the Top Gear in the Outback where they showed you what they deemed a speed limit due to braking distances and what the cars actually braked out?

They proved modern cars stop A LOT faster than they thought.

To get zero, you need -10 because people will go 10 above. It's science!

Just buy a laser jammer to counter the roadside traps, photo is easy to spot and citizen filed complaints go nowhere. Not to mention the police pretty much NEVER enforce in neighborhoods.

People could also teach their kids not to be retarded around the road and cars, but that's too much to ask these days.

Cars can brake faster, are lighter, have pedestrian safety designed into the shape, have features like ABS, SCS, TCS, airbags, crumple zones etc. But bring down those speed limits that are wayyyyy too high!

A few months ago on the way to work a child put his arm out, made eye contact with both drivers and waited until they were stopped and crossed the street. It was an amazing sight.

    yo this logic is best

plus your vehicle is much more maneuverable because you are steering different wheels. instant avoidance of any and all unexpected obstructions. fuckin brilliant

If they call Airdrie as successful, they have not driven anywhere in Airdrie during rush hours.

Bro just speed normally through residential areas doing +45, when you see a cop just rip the ebrake and spin around so you're going -45

My radar detector goes crazy everytime as soon as I enter Banff with no cops in sight, so I always wonder if that's something they did on purpose to fake you out.

Isn't it something to do with all the automatic doors or something? Tourist town though, horrible drivers, clueless pedestrians and that is their comparison.

I always use Germany as an example. I'm autobanh washed.

Residential areas in Germany are 30km/hr enforced. Streets super narrow though.
Everywhere else seems to be 50 km/hr. Will have moving traffic camera's placed in parts of the city.

    B highways are 80-130
    Autobahn unlimited (certain zones)

It's the driving culture. They know and apply the rules of the road. They care and focus while driving. Sure there are a few bad apples, but they get frowned upon even if they care or not. So most drive well. Here we see a bad apples do something incorrect it's monkey see monkey do. He's driving 149 in the driving lane passing on the right. Why can't I?

Driving 50km/hr in Germany vs here is torally different. Mainly because here there's always brake tapping due to other inability to follow at a x distance.

Comparing apples to oranges I know but,l maybe one day we can be as "obedient" on the roads lol.

    Curse you imageshack..

    Decent article
    http://www.edmontonsun.com/2015/08/1...-be-deadly-too

So claiming (as the city of Edmonton loves to do) that “every one-km/h increase in speed leads to a three-per-cent rise in collisions,” is, according to McGee, “simplistic.”

Believe it or not, setting a speed limit too slow for a given location also adds considerable risk.

According to the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the best speed limits are those set at the 85th percentile. That’s the speed up to which 85 per cent of motorists drive even when there are no speed limit signs.

Limits set too far below that cause accidents because some motorists will be puttering along at the posted limit or less, while others are driving at a higher speed that feels more natural. The mix of vehicles at various speeds is risky.

So unless the city knows what the 85th-percentile speed is on the streets in town, and posts its limits accordingly, it could actually be increasing accident risk by keeping limits unnaturally low.

Yeah I read over that entire article and it all makes sense but the best part was simply stating that this shit exists simply for making money.
