Default When to look: Cheapest flights from YYC to SE Asia Dec 12-Jan4

For those who have experience travelling to SE Asia over christmas, can you share what sort of fares you've had, the airlines and destinations involved?

We're not adverse to say, flying to hong kong and getting another flight from there to BKK.

Im wondering when a good time to look for flights is, and a ballpark low price. I was thinking $1200, can it be done for less?

    All input is appreciated!

that's pretty much the high season as lots of people flies back home for the holidays.

to get the cheapest deal for SE Asia over Christmas you'll have to book at least 9 months ahead of time.

looking on google flight, flight from CGY to Seoul or HK is around 1600, then HK to BKK is another 400

yeah the first one is more or less the cheapest if you book right now, we just booked $1500 each to BKI, but the second part (HK-BKK) can be done for $150-$200 CDN... Air Asia cheapness is the key in SE Asia, in my experience at least.

    $1200? Good luck with that.

I flew to HKG last December on the 7th, trying to miss the high season and I paid $1700 on Cathay Pacific. I remember Air Canada was around $1500.

A week later and it was $200 more.

I bought the tickets in July and watched the prices go up as it got closer to December.

$1200? Ooo, maybe if you ride the connection train but you'll need at least $1400 to get a decent flight to SE Asia.

I have done YYC to Seoul (September to December 24) for about 1600. Booked literally 12 hours before I left.

Also done Singapore November to Mid January for around 1100. Same thing very last minute bookings.

Christmas holidays guaranteed will be more though.

I don't even think there is a $1200 fare basis to Asia during that season, so regardless of when you would book you likely won't get a price that low.

Unless you have a promo code that is substantial you're likely looking at around ~ $1800 without flying on shitty carriers or going on a milk run.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I found 1050 to singapore via air canada and ANA. Its about 100 each way to bkk from there (i always used jetstar). gotta be a little bit flexible with dates.

I always use kayak.com to look because it gives you a confidence in buying thing which is nice. I am half convinced to head to asia now if its only gonna cost 1000 over christmas. Costs that much to get to toronto.

    what's ANA?
the closer to Christmas the pricier it gets, although sometimes on either Dec 23,24 or 25 the price can be cheap as well.
    For CGY-SIN, I'm seeing $1115 from Dec 17- Jan7

YYC deals just posted a $770 return flight to Hong Kong. Add that to an Air Asia flight, and you are set.
