    Default need help w/ 1990 mercedes 300SE

two problems you might be able to help me with. 1)my air conditioner produces somewhat less than cold air, i'm almost sure it's because i'm out of free-on. being that my car is 1990, i am assuming it uses the older free-on, how do i convert??
    2) i did something really stupid while washing my car, by using the tough side of a dish sponge to get the tough spots. to my surprise, it left marks all over the car that give it somewhat of a zebra effect. i tried turtle wax without success. suggestions??

i should, it leaks oil around the piston rings, oiling the sparkplugs and then there's corrosion and guess who has to clean it off? but since i dont have enough money for a new car, i'll bitch and moan about this one for a few more years

Mercedes have cork gaskets, so there going to leak pretty good,

try getting a buff job from a paint or detail shop, that should get

out the scratch's(most of them), and freon gas has been illegal

since 2000, It's usually costs about $130 bucks to make the

    switch to the new shit........

LOL, when i bought my Passat 2 years ago, they Said the Air conditioning didnt work( this was at Certigaurd for the Mechanical), and that i needed to switch over to "the new type of Freon" and it was gonna cost like $500-$700 ( they wernt sure)
, i thought they were just trying to rip me off , so i was like Fuck that shit!!! the sunroof and Windows will do just fine!:p ......Turned out, the Air conditioning worked !! becasue it wasnt ICE COLD in 5 seconds they thought it didnt work, they were just retards.

you could try a very mild abrasive like turtle wax polishing compound to get out the scratches. If you've used something tougher than a scouring pad, you could need something with a little more cut, like mequires medium cut cmpd.

For the paint scratches, i would suggest a good power polishing to the entire car. It'll make an old car look new again.

For the AC problem, check to make sure the ac unit itself isn't leaking. If it is then a rebuild in needed and you'll have to swap over to the newer refrigerant. If the AC is good, and just needs a refill, go to Benz Auto in town... i think they might be able to help you out with the older AC.

The oil leak is very common to the SEL benz. My parents have the 560SEL and we just rebuilt the damn thing. The main problem is in the head, and usually its more than just a leaky valve cover gasket. It's damn expensive to get the head overhauled, so i suggest just drive it till she dies.

You may want to try Meguires Clay Bar for some of those scratches.
