I am looking to get a digital painting printed to canvas in the 36"x36" range. There are tons of different places that will do it, so I was hoping to get a recommendation from someone on here. Or better yet, which places should I avoid?

lol My only experience with this is Walmart Their quality is ok - but I haven't compared to anything else yet.
So far my best luck has been with Michaels. Look for discount codes and it can save you a shit load.http://michaels.canvasondemand.com/
I've had good results from these guys.

locally ive used iceline photo but most of the timei went with posterjack because of the occasional 25% off promo that they have
although im thinking of going with resolve photo as local lab in calgary from now on
posterjack.ca does an amazing job with Canvas. Comes ready to hang on good quality Canadian made canvas and is hand stretched. They have regular 25% off sales and a few sizes of canvas are on sale right now too. I have several of them now, I'm super happy with them. If you're downtown you're welcome to come check one out. Also much cheaper than anything I've seen locally with the same or better quality.
My only complaint is their largest size is 32X48/36X48 and I would like a 40X60 option. They can print 60" wide but for some reason not with no greater than 30" on the other dimension.

There is also the Calgary 2013 start up Ookpix (owned by West Canadian Digital Imaging 1952), sales are on now:
http://www.ookpix.com/wall-art/
AND there is an addition 30% off those already marked sale prices, see the small blue banner "first time to ookpix" running off the company logo.
30 x 20 is under $60 bucks with all these deals included. Free shipping from their large and impressive (had a tour) building in Inglewood, 1601 9th Avenue SE.
They've done some printing for me in the past and will do more in the future.

Resolve was on my short list, but I'll check out posterjack.ca and a couple of the others mentioned.
The only issue with Ookpix, is that they can only do 17" square! That makes no sense to me to only offer such small sizes.
Earl, I take it the stuff from Resolve was up to snuff?
Ultracrepidarian
Yup, the price may be a little high but they definitely have a lot more selection in printing than posterjack. plus it's nice to have a local print lab you can walk in, see samples of various prints and if you are lost, they can give you suggestions.Originally posted by msommers

I printed a 500cm B&W shot on K7 12x12, an XPro1 B&W shot on Awagami Unyu 12x18 and an Xpan print on Canson about 8x20 and all came out great.
I love the Awagami paper on B&W or shots with very subtle colors but IMO you have to print it big, like 32x48+ to really appreciate it.
Also had a positive film scanned by their Nikon Coolscan 9000 and then made a comparison against my puny v600
CS9000 on the left, V600 on the right
V600 vs CS9000 by earl.dieta, on Flickr
V600 vs CS9000 2 by earl.dieta, on Flickr
the full size of the CS9000 is 13000x8700 and the V600 at 2400dpi is only 7800x5200.
just scary how much detail you can pull out from film with a really good scanner
One thing I just noticed though is that the CS9000 scan had a small newton ring, guess it wasn't really flat when scanned.
For $20 a scan though, I'll use it only if I want something scanned big
if you want to view the full sizes of the scan
heres the CS9000

I also got my 32x48 acrylic print, don't really like the standoff kit, it doesn't feel secure but overall I'm happy with the print.
if you want to see the resolve prints, i can bring them to work later this week
