    Default Need a chainsaw

Ok Beyond. Do me proud, recommend me a decent chainsaw for the couple of times a year I need to "buck" some firewood. I'm thinking in the $200 range if possible.

Is poulin a decent brand for occasional use? Princess auto sells them for under $100 and I probably need a chainsaw two days a year.

    ^^Logging background.

If you're cutting more than twigs and saplings, you'll want to go bigger than a 170... The Stihl 250 is the smallest I'd go.

... and I wouldn't buy anything other than a Stihl or Husky gas powered... you can find some great deals on Kijiji, too. I got my last 351 on Kijiji for next to nothing... virtually brand new, also.

My thoughts exactly, 170 is a POS and will not hold up to long term use, even light use. I recommend the lowest level husqvarna that uses all metal and can't be bought at cdn tire.... then again I use a 372XPW for light home use....

Ok, I looked at that one that spikers recommended, and I'm eyeballing one of these... a little bit more power, and not a lot more money..

Hmm.. so I should stay away from Kijiji chainsaws...

Basically, I get a couple of cords of wood a year. I'm just looking for something that I can use for cutting up already fallen logs. I doubt I'll ever be cutting down trees, unless the wife actually convinces me to get a real tree one year.

A friend of mine just bought the 445 and it is a great all around saw, I would recommend that or the 455 Rancher.

    http://www.husqvarna.com/ca/en/products/chainsaws/445/

With a good Oregon 16" bar on it its got plenty of power to fall and buck smaller stuff, but still light enough for limbing.

He used to have a small 235 Husq and I had a $50 Pawn shop Mccullogh... Mine lasted longer and was more reliable. the entry Husqvarna are not any better than Poulan IMO. Do not buy a saw at a big box store, they are a different line and are shit.

Obligatory Pics, 2 372s and a 235 out cutting wood:

Cool. Thanks for the info guys..
I checked out a flyer, none of these are big box store items.

I was thinking maybe the 435 or the 440.. Then again.. the stihl 180 seems pretty popular for what I'll be doing.

Ok, so I went down to AB Forest and talked to them, and ended up getting the 180-CBE

Should work perfectly for my purposes.

I have tool-less chain adjustment on my craftsman chainsaw, and I'm not crazy about it. Hopefully the one you posted is better.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?
